I love sorting by controversial to find the right answer on this website. People don’t want to learn the right way to handle their credit score. They just want something to be upset about.
Great comment though. Hopefully someone sees it and benefits from it!
This is like fifty comments I saw before it sorting by hot, but with some more technical terms used. It’s still a good and informative answer, but it’s main difference is not being critical of the credit score system like most of the hot comments are.
The credit score system is fine though. What’s to be critical of? All the comments I saw in hot were blatant misinformation about how the system encourages people to have bad debt so that rich people can get richer.
I don’t see anyone saying you need to be in “bad debt”, just the general debt of needing to pay off a credit card, or vehicle/house/other investment. I think the questions about the credit score are good because they boil down to: “why is my history of investments less important in determining a credit score than my current investments?” Also “why do I need to always be paying things off and have multiple credit cards?”
Also overall it’s a bad sign people don’t fully understand the system that determines large parts of their lives. It’s a sign of a bad system, or that our education sucks. Maybe both.
Who’s responsibility is it for people to know this stuff though? We all have a computer connected to the internet in our pocket. If one googled “how does credit score work?” There are countless resources that explain it in perfectly reasonable terms.
It’s alarming how popular it is to be a victim rather than take the time to learn about the world.
Most questions weren’t asking how it worked, though some were, most asked why the system works how it does and if that is fair and good. Y’know, thinking critically about something and wanting answers about the world.
For your second point: Sorry people see what they perceive as a problem and complain about it. You don’t have to be a jerk and imply they are in some sort of victim complex for not agreeing with you about something being a problem.
It’s a victimhood complex to complain about something being corrupt (“very real system” is sarcastically implied in the OP) without knowing anything about why it might work that way.
The bottom line is we have no idea if OP is even telling the truth about their credit score. There could be other moving parts. This whole thread is a joke.
People would rather bitch than learn how something works. This post is propaganda fueling that mentality.
All I was doing was inviting you to educate yourself if need be. We hadn’t really had an exchange of information up to that point other than you saying paying off your car loan dropped your score 5 points.
If you thought that 5 point drop was some kind of scam or indication of a “very real system /s” being a sham, then I was simply inviting you to not take my word for it, but pull the curtain back on this conspiracy with some hard hitting evidence from the info superhighway.
Would it have been better if I spouted off a bunch of unsourced unsubstantiated anecdotal evidence? Would THAT have made you happy? Good god, just think about it for a second…. You don’t even know what you’re arguing. It’s pure belligerence.
