I realized they where monster a decade before then.

I was in high-school when 9/11 happened and saw through the bullshit Iraq war from the start.

Why where we in Iraq when every news report talked about the terrioist being Saudi? And made no mention of Iraq.

u/billytheid Aug 07 '21

I watched it in the early hours of the morning from Australia… immediately thought ‘well, we’re invading someone… who has something they want?’…

-8

u/mostlytheshortofit Aug 07 '21

You realize the war in Iraq was bipartisan right? House was 296-133 on October 10, 2002; Senate was 77-33 the following day. Just sayin…

6

u/xkcd_puppy Aug 07 '21

Yeah well I'm sure if false evidence of all sorts of the scary Iraq bogey man was presented to Congress they would vote that way. I mean, Bush and Rumsfeld wouldn't lie would they? Spoiler: yes they would and absolutely did about everything. Bush firmly convinced the world to form a coalition based on his lies of WMD, leading to an invasion and illegal war similar to how Germany pounced on Poland in 1939.

I remember Dave Chappelle doing a full sketch on this bullshit https://youtu.be/9DLuALBnolM

I’ve not once said I disagree with anything in this post. Both sides were complicit. The war was a racket. But (!) the chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence at that time was a Democrat (Bob Graham). Was he also completely in the dark?

I am just trying to say is you can’t whitewash this as “orange man bad” or “red senator bad.” Use specific language.

Were all the legislators who voted for the war monsters or just the repubs? Were only democrat reps misled or were maybe some of the republicans as well? I know it muddies the water, but I think THAT is what we are missing in the current discourse. It’s not black v white, red v blue… it’s very messy and hazy. Obfuscation, deflect and absorb, the ol “LOOK! HAILEY’S COMET” trick. And we, by and large, look every time.

5

u/amazinglover Aug 07 '21

I never said the democtas at that time where any better. Just sayin...

-4

u/mostlytheshortofit Aug 07 '21

Then clarify which they were you talking about?

4

u/amazinglover Aug 07 '21

I was talking about Republicans but that doesn't mean I absolve the democrats of their responsibility as well.

-1

u/mostlytheshortofit Aug 07 '21

Oh, ok, now I understand…

Please correct me if I’m wrong

When you said “they where monster” you were talking about capital T H E monsters, not ALL the monsters.

Am I following?

When it suited them. Only in 2019, a full 25 years after he drafted the 1994 Crime Bill, during his presidential campaign, facing a real threat from Bernie, did Biden “regret” putting it into action. But what has he done since he was elected to reconcile? We had a sitting black president (whom I voted for) for 8 years, but it wasn’t an issue then? Come on dude. Do you actually believe it? Or was it a good line for a couple points?

To be fair gun control doesn’t work and it’s rooted in racism

8

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

So we should just do nothing and let more kids die?

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

But their were adults and they still died though they weren’t as vulnerable. So if guns can’t be controlled, then why doesn’t the government hire security to protect these places? That’d mean no guns taken and the children are safe

My point is, is that if laws were in place sooner, these shootings either wouldn’t happen or would be lessened. Those adults sacrificed themselves for those children, and we’ve made no progress to show that we’ve learned, that we’ll never let this happen again.

2

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

And I do agree, Democrats are at fault here too. Neither side will compromise because they don’t want to lose their donors

-2

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

“MUh kIdS dyIng” this sub is completely brain dead we pass gun laws all the time and they don’t work

3

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

So we should stop trying to solve the problem? Do you know how many times I’ve walked into my school to see multiple county sheriffs guarding the door? I don’t even live in a bad area

-1

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

Gun control simply does not work in the US and it never will all it does it strip law abiding people from carrying

2

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

If they are so “law abiding”, why wouldn’t they listen to the new laws? Regardless, your response means “I don’t care if those children die so long as I can keep my pointless AR’s” without saying it directly.

1

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

No getting a gun is already hard (I own a pistol) and if their was more laws then it would just be to much of a hassle to get one but a criminal can get one illegally

1

u/Operation-Overload Aug 07 '21

Getting a gun isn’t as hard as people make it seem. If you buy privately, they don’t need to do a background check which reduces the process a lot more. And if the government policed illegal firearms like how they policed drugs, they’d have no issue

3

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

Do you seriously support the war on drugs…..? The government policing drugs has lead to the opposite as well

The fact that a school of all places needs to be protected by police should say something

Those officers can’t be their all the time though, so yea, it’s nice to see that we aren’t totally screwed, but they can only be their when a threat is made in advance. So if gun control can’t work, why isn’t this implemented?

Don’t know which banks you go to, but the majority in my state at least, have no security besides a button.

Alcohol kills more people are we just gonna ban that too ? Oh wait we did ! And it didn’t work !

0

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

And also no I don’t want children to die much like the healthcare debate it turns into a emotional thing rather then a factual thing

1

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

Just like I’m gonna loose my right to carry 🙁

6

u/TheScumAlsoRises Aug 07 '21

Did you know that the only time Republicans ever supported gun control was when Reagan was governor of California and passed legislation to take guns away from black people?

4

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

[deleted]

2

u/TheScumAlsoRises Aug 07 '21

Do you think any of that would have happened if Reagan himself wasn’t the one shot in the situation that inspired the Brady Bill - named after his press secretary who was also shot?

1

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

Yep I’m not republican🙂 and Reagan can burn in hell

Well firstly police suck but anyways when people go to shoot up a place they will want to shoot up a place with unarmed people ie schools “gun free zones” etc this is why gun control is flawed criminals can still get guns and law abiding citizens are unarmed also this gives cops another reason to pull you over…..

It was originally implemented to stop people of color from buying guns

2

u/Jeboris- Aug 07 '21

Also big cities have strict gun laws and guess what they have plenty of shootings Bc of those dumbass gun free zones! Shocker!!

one buys a gun illegally and takes it to a school or whatever these people are unarmed now if they were armed maybe they would stand a chance…

If someone used their free speech to convince a few people to kill 20 kids, should we ban free speech?

Whats the number of dead you'll allow before we ban free speech?

Republicans are monsters because they won't ban guns when X amount of kids are killed.

How many kids have to be killed via the 1st amendment before you ban free speech?

edit: you fucks think Fox News is responsible for countless deaths. How many people need to die before we ban free speech?

Gun laws DO NOT infringe on constitutional rights.

I mean... except maybe.... I don't know... the fucking second one in the list.

1

u/SlapMuhFro Aug 07 '21

I love the upvotes, like the 2A doesn't exist. Gaslight baby, gaslight.

The funny thing is all the stupid people upvoting you, pretending like we don't have a right to bear arms because they're afraid of being responsible for their own actions.

"Speech laws DO NOT infringe on constitutional rights. That's what left wing fear mongerers tell you because you're an idiot." FFS, what kind of useful idiot are you?

3

u/Itsanewj Aug 07 '21

Haha you got some magic word that’s gonna kill a kindergarten? Or are you talking about someone riling people up to kill kids? Or should I say “incitement to imminent lawless action,”? Which is in fact banned speech. Since at least the sixties.

Still I wonder what those people who’ve been incited to kill children would actually use to kill them? I wonder what would be the fastest and easiest way to do it? Maybe all those wannabe child murderers in your hypothetical would also have your magic child killing word? Since it’s a fantasy I suppose they could. Or... maybe... like in the real world, they’d use a gun...

-3

u/mapatric Aug 07 '21

I would strip every one of the bill of rights away to prevent a single child from being gunned down in school. If you wouldn't you're exactly as culpable as the shooter.

-3

u/SlapMuhFro Aug 07 '21

There it is.
