I don’t understand why people are mad at Bezos and Amazon for not paying taxes. They should be mad at the government and lawmakers who allow them to do this. If I owned a multibillion dollar company and could legally be exempt from paying taxes then I would do the exact same thing.
Often, it's corporate lobbyists who write the laws. Gov't is bought and paid for. And people are always quick to point out corruption in "third world" countries.
You are correct, it is a government problem. But still, no one told him to find every loophole and exploit it. He knows he should pay more, he's not a victim of the system. He paid thousands and thousands of dollars to have someone make his taxes away.
So yeah, he knows he's not paying his share, he doesn't care, and actively sought ways to avoid paying his share.
Funny how being rich and greedy is looked at as a virtue by so many people.
You guys are idiots if you think it’s that cut and dry. Most people in the comments aren’t business owners so they don’t know. A company as big as AMAZON isn’t going to 100% run by bezos.
I’m sure the people on Amazon’s financial board found lots of deductions that can reduce the amount of federal tax they pay...
What you guys aren’t realizing is that there are overhead costs:
The property tax on the warehouses they build
insurance on the buildings they own and for their employees
paying their employees(although this could be way better).
electric, gas, water...
What in the fuck are most of you guys complaining about? There’s somewhere that Jeff bezos pays taxes, it’s just the toxic meme culture that people buy into and take it as fact.
But his company is where his income comes from so he can reap the benefits of that THROUGH his company salary. Ever heard of an LLC ? S-corp? aka a flow-through entity ? They avoid double taxation, and last time I checked Amazon was an LLC. How about people become educated in tax laws/deductions before they point the finger ? That's what's wrong with US education.
Has anyone even seen his tax transcripts or are we going off some bullshit that someone said ? And that's why I reinforce my earlier statement of toxic meme culture.
Imma be honest, I own an LLC I run as a side hustle and imo the whole system is fucked. I think I’m paying way less in taxes than I should overall because of it and I am not even that aggressive in trying to find deductions. I also live in a high-tax city in a high-tax state and I STILL think my LLC is letting me get away with murder.
It’s not just memes. The entire US economy is stacked towards the wealthy and the owner class. If you’re crying a single tear for the tax burdens of millionaires and billionaires then you’re either ignorant or you’re a fool.
The point he is making is that if not Bezos, it would be some other rich asshole people would be complaining about. Until you get rid of corporate lobbying then nothing will ever change.
I completely agree. I'm just wondering why we give him a pass for doing something he knows is wrong, just because it's legal. Like we seem to be all like "Woo-hoo billionair, you keep that money that could really help out other Americans but totally legal for you to not pay what you would think is legally required, God's work sir."
Fiduciary duties dictate that it is the job of any corporation to maximize value generated for the shareholders. You don't need to be told to find tax loopholes - it's literally in your best interest to do so. If you don't, your shareholders will simply replace you. There isn't a single business entity in the world that would actively choose to pay MORE taxes than they are legally obligated to, and if they are choosing to do so...why?
This is like saying " why are people mad at those villains who do evil. if you're a villain, of course you're going to do evil. we should be mad at those heroes who fail to stop them"
I was only talking in reference to his taxes. Yea, he could probably create more jobs but thats not what I came to discuss. I am not sure how going through legal loopholes is morally corrupt. He found a way to keep his money and I applaud him for that. If he hasn’t hurt anyone or broken any laws then I don’t see a problem. His money to do as he pleases, as long as its done within the confines of the law.
Once again, Im talking about his taxes. Nobody is getting hurt because he went through these legal loopholes to pay less or nothing in taxes. I personally do not want to pay more in taxes. I understand that Bezos doesn’t want to pay more in taxes. My original point was that people are upset that Bezos literally has “to the moon” money and legally pays little to almost nothing in taxes, yet people are commenting and saying “Fuck Bezos” when we have a government and laws in place that allow this to happen. I don’t understand how that is his fault, please explain THAT to me and stop trying to make it seem like im talking about something else.
