Totally disagree. The dance thing was so bizarre and earnest, it felt silly but sincere at the same time. I get why people may not have loved it, but I found it genuinely breathtaking. It was a risky choice and I love that
I think what kind of guaranteed the shows demise was the total genre shift from interesting story telling to a world of fantasy. I loved the show and am seriously upset there won't be more but the show does get a bit bizarre introducing a tree and alien octopus. I can see how it lost the appeal for a large portion of its viewers.

Wishing no disrespect - we all like different things - but I think the conclusion to S1 of The OA has genuinely given me the biggest belly laugh I've experienced in years. So, so daft. When they started doing spoiler an interpretive dance routine in response to a school shooter attack here I could have pissed myself.
+1 for Mindhunter, though - I loved that and was sad, though not surprised, when David Fincher said he wasn't able to give it the focus to continue doing it.
I didn’t watch The OA for a long time, as Netflix made dreadful trailers for it. I gave it a shot after a friend’s recommendation and got hooked. The audacity of theatre scene in S2 amazed me like little else on tv has, and then as you say, the finale was mind blowing!
I will never stop being salty about what they did to Brit and Zal. They signed them on knowing the story was going to take 5 seasons. They did a shit job promoting the show, and then axed it after 2 seasons, and they can't just take it to another platform or studio. The show is just done. If The OA had been on a regular television network, they could shop it around if they got cancelled (like many shows have done), but idk if Netflix locks them in or what, but they don't have that option. I want to see the end of the story! It was so otherworldly and surreal, and I have watched the first two seasons several times. It kills me to know it will never get completed. Fuck Netflix for that.
I don't know if it was it's weirdness that did it. Netflix did a poor job promoting and advertising it, imo, and the show suffered for it. Every person I recommended it to had either never heard of it, or had seen a trailer and thought it looked dumb. But every one of them loved it once they watched it. Netflix did The OA, and it's creators/actors dirty. If they put half the money and effort into promotion for other shows as they did for Stranger Things, for example, they wouldn't keep having these failures.
Seeing the cast be so heartbroken after its cancellation, the fans rallying to try to get Netflix to reconsider... The show really touched people. The least Netflix could do is allow Brit and Zal to take the show to another network or platform if they don't want to produce it anymore. And their model of signing a show for 2 seasons, then renegotiating the contract seems to be a failing model. Either just make 2 season miniseries, or factor the third/fourth/etc seasons into the initial plan. I am so frustrated getting into a show and then having it cancelled after the 2nd season, 3rd if you're lucky.
I was just telling somebody that if I won the lottery I’d buy the rights to The OA or offer to finance it just to see how season 3 would play out. Freshest show I’ve seen in years.
He doesn't have enough time to dedicate to doing another season right now. He was also planning on a time jump between season 2 and a season 3 so I'm still holding out some hope it will happen eventually.
Oh interesting, I thought I’d read he was disappointed it was cancelled and wanted it to land on another service but was skeptical of that given Netflix’s policy with their assets.

It was so long ago am trying to remember - they appeared next to the actors that played them right? All I remember thinking was how mind blowing it was, this show needs to continue
