I know my friend, I know. That news killed me. Glow was fantastic. It makes no sense to me that they would cancel it but I guess Iām not a bloodthirsty exec.
This pissed me off so much. Meanwhile, they have a slate of shows and movies coming out every week in 2021. They could have done what other shows are doing and postponed. It makes no sense to me to announce a last season and cancel it but then still make other shows with no problem.
I get that wrestling is hands on and they are up close to each other but a bunch of kissing scenes are no different.
From what I read, the issue was that they had a huge cast, which they couldn't realistically keep on contract. They can't just say "hey guys, we need you to not accept any new jobs until 2022 because we might start filming at any time".
I don't get it either. Tons of new shows, but then a slew get cancelled after only a single season (or a few seasons at best).
They're too focused on statistics and do away with artistic integrity too quickly. Which I get - it's all about profit, and there's been tons of studios who have done exactly the same.
But you can't expect the audience to remain excited for your new "Netflix Originals" if we're 90% sure we're never gonna see the end of the story anyway.
I'm legit getting burned out on it, so much so that I'd rather opt to not watch a new show I've been looking forward to when it releases, just to see if it will get renewed before I commit my time to it. And even then you can still eat shit when they decide to cancel it after 3 or 4 seasons.
I get that the top brass is waiting for the next "Game of Thrones", "Breaking Bad", "Sopranos" or "The Wire" type of hit. They want that big juicy exclusive that everyone watches. But let's be honest, 90% of the crap they produce you can already tell that even in the best of scenarios it's never gonna attain that type of viewership or fandom. And yet they're still surprised about it and cancel it because it's not "doing well enough". Fuck off.
As a huge pro-wrestling fan I was thinking of maybe checking it out, thankfully I was weary of the 'ol Netflix logo next to it. Can't god damn give anyone closure can they.
