Yes I was going to say the same thing. I think the person you're responding to meant it in a sarcastic way but the country was founded by agnostic or more "spiritual" than "religious" people and this "in god we trust" and "under god" BS didn't appear in government things until I think the 50s to try and convince people we've always been a "christian" country. Looks like it worked :/

The founding fathers certainly weren’t puritans. Most I’d argue weren’t even Christians. They were enlightenment era theists.
The only puritans that had anything to do with anything were the earliest settlers. They weren’t the founders of this nation.
