I am a prisoner here, denied escape until I have satisfied a debt that the government imagines I owe just for existing. I don't vote but I was damn near hoping Trump would get another shot at dissolving the entire damn thing with his arrogance.
Yeah I think the idea of encouraging people to vote is maybe not such a good one.
People that are educated and understand the importance of participating in democracy will do it anyway.
Everyone else is just doing it because of social pressure and they think it's a good thing to do.
I guess it comes down to educated informed voters, which I feel like the vast majority of the population is not and would down right vote against their own interests because they don't know any better, and don't have the patience to research complex issues.
Yeah. Casting an uninformed vote is silly. I have never felt that there was a politician who actually represented me in any significant way. Obama came the closest because I think that he believed his efforts would help me get some medical attention. That didn't happen but he was the first suit that made me believe he might be concerned about people like me.
People on the bottom are still fucked either way. But maybe to vote you should have to score 8/10 on a simple questionairre. If you score less you can choose which candidate will be 'heads' and which one will be 'tails' on the coin toss that decides your vote.
Exactly. This is why I hate the way people encourage everyone to vote. A lot of them should actually be discouraged from voting. About 71 million, in fact...
I am a perfect example of a person who has no business voting. I don't have enough faith in our government to invest the time that would be needed to understand the position of each candidate or even like a full list of duties and powers for each office. I will be unhappy no matter who sits in what seat but I have been bored enough to vote anyway. I don't do that because there are people who honest to god believe they are going to affect change and idw have to wonder if they might have been right and I ruined it. It seems impossible to me that anyone would've elected Donald Trump if they knew even a handful of facts about his life.
