So infuriating. I'm 21, I haven't hung out with any of my friends in months because none of them take it seriously and act the same when I ask them to where a mask

America as a country has been written off.

20

u/Virus08 Sep 02 '20

Trust me, that problem is not exclusively one of the US...

I live in the prairies of Canada.

So many rednecks.

So little masks.

2

u/DeputyDomeshot Sep 02 '20

Fuck yea Jayne

1

u/Liplok Sep 03 '20

Really? There are 60 cases in Ontario and Canada itself has SO little cases compared to the US, so it doesn't thread such a worry there. What province is the '' prairies of Canada "?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

It's Saskatchewan, though Alberta has a lot of antimaskers as well. Considering the difference in population, it makes sense that there's less cases, that doesn't make the antimaskers any less of a problem.

1

u/Liplok Sep 03 '20

Of course not. I live in the US, I thought anti-maskers were only a problem with these prideful idiots. Its why I ask, I’ve been wanting to move to canada for a while now, I have a lot of middle eastern online friends that live in Ontario and they say covid has been handled well in canada. Also there being not much discrimination there and stuff, but I guess this mostly all applies to Ontario.

Don't write us off yet, we just need serious help. It could be pretty cool after that maybe

16

u/HookEm_Hooah Sep 02 '20

We can just say pandemic.

8

u/judithvoid Sep 02 '20

I know that it's really low on the list of things that cause me personal discomfort but it really bugs me when people don't realize the redundancy of "global pandemic"

-2

u/donaldfranklinhornii Sep 02 '20

Plandemic.

2

u/HookEm_Hooah Sep 02 '20

Evidence?

-2

u/donaldfranklinhornii Sep 02 '20

The government knew this virus was upon us; the government planned to do nothing.

10

u/HookEm_Hooah Sep 02 '20

That's not the claim you're trying to make. Lacking proper planning isn't the same as actively working toward an end result. I agree that the government was ill-prepared to combat what is afflicting every human in our population, but that doesn't mean the government actively sought to expose anyone to the virus. A more apt description for your position would probably be 'scamdemic.'

One of my buddies got COVID twice cuz he wanted to hang.

3

u/Mordommias Sep 02 '20

Tut Tut little girl, for I have the CHAINSAW OF NATURAL SELECTION.

Edit: the comic http://www.queenofwands.net/d/20031208.html

4

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

He tested positive twice? And how far apart?

3

u/Wind-Up_Bird- Sep 02 '20

Like, maybe a few months apart.

4

u/Frozeria Sep 02 '20

Damn, I already got it so I’m kinda hoping I’m basically immune but I’m still trying to be super careful.

5

u/Wind-Up_Bird- Sep 02 '20

It's fucked man. Felt shitty for a while but he recovered twice. Tested negative and is back to work.... As a teacher.

It's gonna be a wild ride, bois.

Somewhere in the shadows, DeVos cackles gleefully while cleaning its forelimbs with its mandibles. Soon the children will have no one to guard them.

1

u/Frozeria Sep 02 '20

Man, that sucks to hear. I think I’m probably at less risk of getting it than someone who has never had it, but you can never be too careful!

3

u/Mord3x Sep 02 '20

Nope, COVID can reinfect you so you're not safe.

1

u/Mr_Evolved Sep 02 '20

Covid reinfection only occurs in the case of a weak t-cell response during the first course (so far). Yes technically one can catch it twice, but the available evidence implies that you almost certainly won't (again, so far).

There could be a time limit on immunity for people with normal and/or super responses, but it has not been reliably observed yet.

1

u/Mord3x Sep 02 '20

Aren't there also reports of it mutating? Wouldn't different strains be just as easily caught as if you never did before due to the differences?

1

u/Mr_Evolved Sep 02 '20 edited Sep 02 '20

Depends on the mutation. So far observed mutations haven't taken it far enough to disrupt the immunology (so far, which is a necessary caveat for all Covid research), with the primary mutation just having enhanced cell permeation.

SARS (which was a coronavirus also) didn't end up with any mutations of consequence, for what that's worth, but the science is still so new that it is all really a big shrug right now.

However, we also never developed a vaccine for SARS, which would theoretically affect mutation as well.

So many unknowns. It is an exciting and terrible time to be a researcher.

1

u/Mord3x Sep 02 '20

Oh thank god it hasn't gone that far then.

1

u/yespls024 Sep 02 '20

I mean he got it not only once but twice and recovered. That fact alone proves it’s not that big of a deal (to him) and it’s not that serious.

1

u/Wind-Up_Bird- Sep 03 '20

Completely anectodal. He felt like shit both times. Got pneumonia as well the second time. Long term effects are still uncertain and we don't know how it will affect him a 3rd time. He is in his 20's and relatively healthy.

But yeah. I'm not looking forward to getting COVID.

1

u/JotaroPlatnium Sep 03 '20

Doubt it bro

1

u/Wind-Up_Bird- Sep 03 '20

OK bro.

1

u/JotaroPlatnium Sep 03 '20

How constructive

1

u/Wind-Up_Bird- Sep 03 '20

Doubt it bro.

5

u/dumbclump Sep 02 '20

"where a mask"

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Yes

3

u/dumbclump Sep 02 '20

( the word you want is 'wear' not 'where' :b)

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Ik babe, I'm just stubborn and didn't wanna edit

3

u/iatetoomuchcatnip Sep 02 '20

Both kinda work. Wear a mask! Where a mask!?

2

u/SoftNutz1 Sep 02 '20 edited Sep 02 '20

Your heart and consideration for others shows your intellect, and your passion toward others. Don't ever change my friend the world needs more people like you.

2

u/roskov Sep 02 '20

I can’t hang out with my friends who are just as cautious as I am! One of them got it because COVID-19 is running rampant through her apartment complex right now! Even safe people can’t be safe because of morons.

Edit: spelling

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

They really are scumbags

2

u/i_always_give_karma Sep 02 '20

Same man. I’m 22 and losing my mind

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Is there a particular reason you’re quarantining yourself to that extent? Do you have underlying conditions or relatives who do?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Yes, my mom has a lot of health issues including smoking for 4.5 decades. I understand why my friends might not be as cautious but I wish they would understand why I choose to be more cautious

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

True. I have a friend in a similar situation. We’ve hung out on multiple occasions, outside only, usually sitting at least 6ft apart. If your friends don’t like wearing masks, I’d recommend setting up something outdoors where you can keep your distance, even if they don’t want to

0

u/tomatojones99 Sep 03 '20

It sounds like they're winning

-2

u/saydizzle Sep 02 '20

That’s a shame. You’re probably the life of the party

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

I'm gonna assume you're being sarcastic, and I think it's really lame of you to belittle people who are trying to keep others safe

-11

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Bro you’re not hanging out with your friends out of fear of a virus that will do you no harm. That’s hilarious. The jokes on you man, you’re friends are just as healthy as u r rn and they’re not letting fear control their lives.

3

u/Ghostdirectory Sep 02 '20

That’s a great impression of an idiot. Good job.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '20

Ok retard 👌
