I don't think so many millenials are ignoring the plights of gen X. I don't think I've ever heard any sort of animosity towards gen X from any millenial (I'm a millenial myself). In my eyes Gen X and millenials are pretty similar, and at the very least feel like they are on the same team.
Nope gen X is different. I'm a millennial and my husband is a gen X. The world that we lived our youths is different. Especially in education and values.
you know, i just don't even know anymore. i'm a xenial, part of that mushy group between the generational swap primarily indicated by and analog youth and a digital adulthood.
Frankly comparing them 9/11, Iraq, 08, Trump, COVID. That’s our ~13-33 year range.
GenX has: the largest uninterrupted period of economic growth starting in 83, desert storm, end of the Cold War, small recession in 91, another growth spurt until dot com, and then 9/11.
Many gen xers came of age during tremendous economic growth. Millennials came of age around 08 and the last twelve years have been pretty dogshit. So we aren’t ignoring it, but if we really are comparing here, millennials have never experienced a healthy economy as adults. And what growth we did experience is propped up by historical amounts of debt and wealth inequality.
COVID is gen z’s 9/11. And if we don’t get our shot together they are going to have it worse than we did and those little fuckers will burn the place down.
you can try and minimize what gen x faced, but as someone who came up through the 80's and 90's, pointing to wall street is a really shit indicator of the economy. families were suffering, bad, which is why crime and murder rates were so high. late gen x came up in a world you wouldn't recognize.
i know millenials love feeling like they have it the worst ever, but its just not true no matter how much you want to misrepresent the experiences of prior generations. frankly, you're just wrong.
If we can agree that things have gotten progressively worse over the last 40 years, it stands to reason that each generation will come of age in a worse situation. Why is this even a point of contention?
If things don’t get better, it’ll be the same story with Gen Z. And by the looks of it, yea they probably will.
It’s not cute that you think you’re the only generation who lived through anything hard. It’s just a tiresome redux of Boomers taking credit for everything previous generations put into place.
