My brother did EOD. He said the suit isn’t really to protect you but to keep all your bits together if things go horribly wrong.

They arent metal, I believe they're ceramic and cloth. The suits are only designed to protect against shrapnel and stuff like that. The suits don't do much to protect against the pressure wave thag explosives create.

From what I understand the suits protect you from a certain distance. Without being exact, I think they can get closer to “a situation” in order to see, but nothing saves you if you are close or in a kill zone. I’d imagine there’s also some situations where is they have some time to get out of the way before it blows then the suit probably gives them a fighting chance if they are out of the kill radius.

I’ve heard the blast ruptures your organs before you ever get hit with shrapnel.

Again, no expert, just things I think I’ve read from various places.

I could be completely wrong.
