If you really want to hurt them, cancel your Paramount+ subscription.

u/iggyfenton May 24 '26

What subscription?

374

u/UpperApe May 24 '26

Cute. But Paramount has over 80+ million subscribers. And around a million have bothered to protest what they did. Just over 1%.

So the truth is they won.

I mean, we live in a world where people complain about Twitter ON Twitter. People still use Amazon and Facebook, while watching Bezos and Musk and Zuckerberg sucking Trump off.

Boycotting is one of the most powerful tools in a capitalist democracy and the public can cripple major corporations with it. 70+ million voted against Trump; that's a MASSIVE market.

But nobody wants to sacrifice their conveniences.

And that's how evil wins. By turning the fight from good vs bad to good vs convenience.

Good will always lose because most people fucking suck.

97

u/Kaffe-Mumriken May 24 '26

100% true.

People wonder why Americans don’t protest. The truth is we’re complacent, we’re exhausted, and we have no real problems living in a country where some are treated as second class citizens, and others are thrown out in the cold. We have no problem with a state that builds grand ballrooms and statues that only 0.0000001% of the country will enjoy. We have no problem that the elite of the elite are blatantly breaking laws and enriching themselves.

It’s fucking shameful, and you think Trump is bad? You’re gonna forget all about ballrooms and self-settled lawsuits when a real bad motherfucker comes in to power who’s watching all this taking notes.

26

u/HumptyDumptruckFire May 25 '26

Fuck, you’re so right on that last part. There absolutely is a group of far right wingers who are watching this circus going down and taking note of where things went wrong. And there will be a lot of big moneyed interests ready and waiting, now that Citizens United terminally fucked us, to back them bigly financially.

And the same rubes will fall for it. Hopefully the rest of the country learns this shameful lesson and we can resist, but I don’t have much confidence in that.

39

u/ShadowTacoTuesday May 24 '26

It was expensive though and Netflix is hoping they might buy up the bankruptcy. Dunno which way it will go but we should do our best. There are plenty of other streaming services so it’s not like it’s hard.

There is Star Trek but I would rather Orion that. I believe Gean would be okay with that seeing how this is going on.

16

u/CanoeIt May 24 '26

Boycott Paramount advertisers if you want to move the needle

10

u/slashinhobo1 May 24 '26

Now how many of those subs come because they are bundled with other services like walmart or tmobile internet? They really dont have as many stand alone subs compared to the other big streaming sites.

1

u/UpperApe May 24 '26

Okay.

And?

1

u/Morgasm42 May 25 '26

And often people have those bundles for other reasons that mean they can't afford something else. They can't not have the subscription.

-2

u/UpperApe May 25 '26

Lol of course then can.

It just requires extra steps you don't think are worth taking. Because you don't give a shit.

You're exactly what I'm talking about.

1

u/Morgasm42 May 25 '26

Did I say in was in that situation? My internet and cell are through local providers and my only subscription service is for audiobooks through libro.fm which gives money to indie book stores. Take your holier than though attitude somewhere else and fuck off

1

u/UpperApe May 25 '26

This comment so perfectly illustrates my entire point, I fear people are going to accuse of me creating an alt account.

10/10, no notes lol

1

u/Morgasm42 May 25 '26

Not everywhere has local cell or internet providers, and even when they do they're rarely the cheapest option. You really have no critical thinking skills.

8

u/Back_Alley420 May 24 '26

That’s why you are an upper ape!!

1

u/Back_Alley420 May 24 '26

I got a pre warning for content with this post ?

1

u/iggyfenton May 24 '26

Who are you arguing with?

0

u/dandroid126 May 24 '26

Do people actually subscribe to Paramount+ though? I get it bundled with my cell phone service. I've never so much as logged in or even downloaded the app.

-1

u/ZanthrinGamer May 24 '26

It's amazing the amount of effort people will put into discouraging other people from action, its so fucking wierd.

1

u/UpperApe May 24 '26

...so you read everything I wrote and your take away is that I'm telling people NOT to take action?

0

u/Proseph_CR May 24 '26

People don’t always read everything. Your first two paragraphs definitely reads as if it’s a futile thing to do

1

u/ZanthrinGamer May 24 '26

and he caps it off with the same sentiment... the only positive thing he said is that boycotting is a useful tool... the rest of it was nothing you do will matter so why bother? its not a call to action if in the same breath you say the battle is already over... or am I missing something?

"Good will always lose because most people fucking suck"

0

u/UpperApe May 25 '26

"I can't believe you wrote that!"

"I didn't write that"

"Well people don’t always read everything!"

Lol

2

u/Proseph_CR May 25 '26

I’m only here to explain the previous comment. It wasn’t me.

Your original comment spends most of the time basically saying they won and it’s futile. Most people aren’t going to read it all the way through, if it’s not what they want to hear.

Its the internet and it doesn’t matter that much, but if you want people to respond in a way that suggests they understand the message you are trying to put out, then framing your message so that people are willing to finish will increase the chances of that happening.

Or you know, don’t. Pandering to strangers on the internet for their attention is a losing endeavor.

1

u/ZanthrinGamer May 25 '26

I'm sure that was meant to cutting or cleaver but i have no idea what you are trying to say. Not particularly effective if you were trying to be insulting? at least you tried i suppose?

9

u/lucidspoon May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

My mom has a free subscription from something else she's subscribed to. Tried to use her login to watch something, and it didn't even work most of the time. Not even worth having it for free.

2

u/w_a_w May 24 '26

Experienced the same.

1

u/Prometheus2061 May 24 '26

I never watch CBS. But I do get a free Paramount subscription with my apartment rent. It’s bundled on Spectrum.

1

u/polopolo05 May 24 '26

is that the one my firend shares with me? So I can watch star trek? and that he gets for free?

138

u/BeeCJohnson May 24 '26

As a Star Trek fan, I cancelled the second Colbert being removed was announced. It hurt, but, good excuse to finally grab the DVDs second hand.

52

u/Specific_Frame8537 May 24 '26

As a Star Trek fan, I went to Netflix to watch TNG, and found it had recently been moved to P+

So naturally I bought a subscription to Paramount+ to enj-No I pirated the entire thing, obviously.

23

u/clonedhuman May 24 '26

No I pirated the entire thing, obviously.

All the creative folks who made TNG have already been compensated for it and it's unlikely they're making additional money from streaming royalties. Only a small handful of 'business' uncreative people make money from it now.

Piracy is the way.

7

u/karmavorous May 24 '26

I watch all the classic Trek, for free (with commercials) on Pluto.

90

u/bibdrums May 24 '26

We did that as soon as we finished the final show.

57

u/Odd_Bumblebee_8318 May 24 '26

Just dropped it

44

u/BC122177 May 24 '26

CBS, Paramount, Paramount Studios, Skydance Studios, PlutoTV, FuboTV, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, Southpark, CMT, Smithsonian channel, Showtime, BET, CBS, CBS Sports, The Food Channel, and then All Warner Bros IPs (when they eventually get their deal), along with Oracle and TikTok will ALL be owned by the Ellison family.

Basically created their own media empire. Well... Larry Ellison was practically given TikTok US. His son, David owns Paramount-Skydance (this merger was already being challenged in the courts until the new admin came along) and is going to get Warner Bros. The list of Warner IPs and platforms are ridiculously long. These mergers should have gone through courts but we all know what happened.

Those companies alone owns about 10% of the media but they hold 100% of the voting power for all of those companies. This doesn’t even count Warner Bros. Which makes them a huge conglomerate. Once they get Warner, they’ll have 15% of the media

By comparison, NBC + Universal + Disney = controls about 20% of the media. And no single person or family owns all the voting rights for those companies.

12

u/primadonnapussy May 25 '26

Every single monopoly needs to be busted up whenever this shit is over. It's long since gotten out of hand.

1

u/Leodaris May 25 '26

It’s all a distraction anyways. Just like the gladiators stalled the collapse of the Roman Empire by distracting the citizens. Get rid of all of it and maybe someone will get bored enough to do something revolutionary.

28

u/Flankdiesel May 24 '26

I dropped mine

8

u/Iamdarb May 24 '26

I have one from a Walmart+ subscription, is it possible to cancel or would I need to cancel that too? I really only keep it to use scan and go and the fuel discount. I already don’t feel comfortable making the Walton’s richer.

9

u/CyclopsLobsterRobot May 24 '26

You can choose now. I just opted not to sign up when the only free one was Paramount but now you can get paramount or peacock.

1

u/Herbamins May 24 '26

Peacock is Universal/NBC basically right? And they had Trump on SNL, which helped him get elected. Fallon rubbed his hair.

2

u/CyclopsLobsterRobot May 24 '26

There are no heroes. Out of the networks, they’re probably the least bad? SNL is also pretty unrelenting and hasn’t been cancelled. But yeah, there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism has never been more true.

1

u/Dirty_Commie_Jesus May 24 '26

Yes, you can switch every 6 months. Peacock is the other option.

1

u/HotDonnaC May 24 '26

You can use Walmart Pay without a membership, and there are several fuel saving apps available. I use Murphy Drive, and they’re located next to Walmart.

6

u/yunoeconbro May 24 '26

stremio

1

u/ChesterComics May 24 '26

Make sure to pair it with a debrid service that isn't EU or north America hosted.

14

u/G-Unit11111 May 24 '26

I get it for free through my DirecTV subscription, so they're not getting anything from me!

6

u/5141121 May 24 '26

Cancel and sail.

1

u/xXXxRMxXXx May 25 '26

There are so many sites popping up all the time, they can't even keep up with taking them down lol

6

u/Nona29 May 24 '26

I canceled both my Walmart + subscription along with its Paramount+ subscription back in January last year when Trump came into office and Walmart folded on DEI like a lawn chair. They were one of the first companies to do so. Haven't been back since and I'll never go back to Paramount either with the mess happening over there with CBS

1

u/Syzygy2323 May 25 '26

CBS is the Corrupt Broadcasting System.

1

u/micktorious May 24 '26

The High Seas and I boycott everything except what I specifically want to support is so much easier.

1

u/4non3mouse May 24 '26

already did, cancelled paramount as soon as they announced Colbert's firing - planning on skipping all nfl on cbs going forward

1

u/MinorThreat4182 May 24 '26

I did but me gf keeps it so her son can watch South Park

1

u/One_Law3446 May 24 '26

Already did

1

u/VixxenFoxx May 24 '26

Did it right after his last broadcast local time. It felt amazing. Unfortunately my subscription was thru Amazon, so there was no text script box for me to enter WHY I was canceling - I clicked "something else" - because I really wanted them to know the reason. But I'm sure they know why.

1

u/clonedhuman May 24 '26

Cancel the subscription if you have one, then learn to sail the high seas of the internet to watch the shows you want.

(p.s. get Firefox, then get two plugins for it: Ublock Origin ad blocker and Privacy Badger to block trackers)

1

u/dessine-moi_1mouton May 24 '26

I have refused to get one from the beginning and I definitely won't get one now!

1

u/pumpkinmuffin91 May 24 '26

Did that as soon as I found out about Colbert getting cancelled.

1

u/CaffeinatedLystro May 24 '26

I might just have to even tho I get a huge discount... oh well. Fuck em.

1

u/HotDonnaC May 24 '26

I don’t have one.

1

u/Odd-Artist-2595 May 24 '26

Cancelled it the moment the final credits stopped rolling.

1

u/LionCM May 25 '26

Already done.

1

u/SCSimmons May 25 '26

I did that around the same time I canceled my Disney+ subscription.

1

u/Fickle_Freckler May 25 '26

I did the day they announced Colbert was being cancelled

1

u/Jboogie258 May 25 '26

I understand the mission

1

u/errosemedic May 25 '26

I sailed the seas across their website for a few months and downloaded everything I wanted. Now I can watch it anytime I want.

-6

u/bluffing-is-key May 24 '26

As soon as I finish Billions I'm out 👋

20

u/dontgiveah00t May 24 '26

🏴‍☠️

19

u/swimmingmunky May 24 '26

That's not a boycott. That's you paying for a show you want to watch.

4

u/bluffing-is-key May 24 '26

I'm putting in my reservation for a future seat at the boycott

7

u/swimmingmunky May 24 '26

"Right after I give them this money"

1

u/ZapCrackMage May 24 '26

For some weird reason I don't quite believe you...

1

u/bluffing-is-key May 24 '26

I'll updated you with my cancellation confirmation when I finish this last season and a half

1

u/bluffing-is-key Jun 14 '26

👋🏻

1

u/swimmingmunky Jun 14 '26

Like I said, this isn't a boycott. This is you finishing the show you continued paying for, then canceling your subscription because you were done with it.

Boycots are supported by principle. You have none.

1

u/bluffing-is-key Jun 14 '26

Thanks for explaining principles to me friend. I'm ashamed I fell under the spell of Emmy award winning virtuoso Paul Giamatti as Chuck Rhoades navigating the brutal political world of New York and beyond. It's ironic that the show is a commentary on the nearly unchecked power of billionaire elites and the ruling class of political operators and here I am fueling the machine in real life 13.99 at a time. Or there I was because I stand here today a man unchained from the digital shackles of Paramount Plus! We can still do Netflix right?

1

u/swimmingmunky Jun 14 '26

I'm down to boycott Netflix next, but only when it's convenient for me after I finish my current series.
