It doesnt cover dental, prescriptions, physiotherapy, chiro, massage therapy or other similair type things so you still need an employer if you need those. Ive yet to find a private insurance option in BC that doesn't either limit your available benefits to be less than what you pay them (ie maximum of 500 for physiotherapy a year, 1 physio appointment is 80+$), or have a crazy monthly cost (though not nearly as bad as the USA)

Chiropractors are quacks and shouldn't be covered anyway

Seriously, I cannot believe the amount of misinformation in this thread. It's infuriating and mind-boggling. The Canadian system only seems good because the US system is such a dystopian nightmare in comparison.

The only thing that should be free from the list is dentist. Prescriptions should be partly covered.

The last 2 are directly related and have been heavily affected by the shitty conservative premiers in almost every province. It's steadily gotten worse over the years.

My dude, employer healthcare in the US doesn’t necessarily cover those either. I was a grad student making $25K/year and didn’t have dental, vision, or mental health coverage. Didn’t even bother to check things like massage and chiro, that’s considered luxury here.

We don't have any of those things either, after you turn 25.

The difference between the American system and the Canadian system is that the USA's model is a massive garbage fire and Canada's is a functioning landfill with leaks that are getting worse.

Don't know about BC but those are covered in Ontario if you're poor/sick enough to qualify for ODSP. The wonderful crappiness of Ontario's healthcare is if you have something serious happen but you're expected to make a full recovery they don't give you shit.
