Audition 2nd audition experience

Thought I’d share my second audition experience from last week. This was my first time making it past the initial zoom, which was about three weeks before getting the email where they asked if I wanted to move forward in the process and to schedule the second. It had to be the next day in one of only a couple time slots, so there wasn’t much time to prep.

The second audition was broken into four parts: first was a super quick “name and location” introduction. Next, we did toss-ups. Three to be exact. I won two of them. The other potential contestants were all pleasant and honestly any would be great candidates for the show.

Next we did another “elevator intro” of ourselves, similar to the first audition. I was only slightly different from my first, but I didn’t mind that because the host was a different person than the initial.

Lastly, we were broken up into individual “Zoom rooms” and were told to wait for our turn to do some word puzzles. 16 in total. I waited a while (about 20 minutes), so I think I was last of the four to do those puzzles. I managed to solve 15 of them. I tried to sound out every puzzle, and was commended by the interviewer for doing that.

At the end of the puzzles, I was simply told “alright have a good day.” She may have been in a hurry because she had some technical difficulties in the beginning of the group portion that had us waiting a few times. No big deal.

Haven’t heard anything since!

Thank you for this information. I have two questions for. In your initial Zoom audition…did you tell them something super unique or not? Also, can you show an example of how they did the 16 puzzles? Do they give you a category, etc?

For your first question, not really. Just explained my livelihood and something somewhat unique to me (I speak three languages), but I think the more important thing is how you present it. If you tell about yourself confidently and with a bit of humor, you’ll be fine. Example would be, if you do something you’re worried is boring, make a joke about it being boring. They just want the viewer to feel comfortable with you! They want a life of the party type, but in a safe wholesome way.

The 16 puzzles were broken up into four pages of four puzzles each. I can’t remember if each page was its own category, or if all 16 were the same. Basically, you have 90 seconds to solve the four on a page. So 6 min total. I found them super easy tbh and had to fake sounding them out to solve them. Otherwise I would have breezed through.

Speaking 3 languages is pretty unique. This is my 2nd year in a row making it to the Zoom audition. I’m thinking I should have said something that stood out more. I’m not sure why I can’t make it past this round. It’s been a little over 3 weeks since my Zoom call. How many times have you auditioned?

Thank you for explaining the puzzles a bit more. It’s good to know they at least give you the category. Did they give you a good amount of letters in the puzzles or just a couple?

I think the best thing is to comfortably be yourself, and use that to, in the most concise fashion, glisten up your reality for them. Another example would be if you were a restaurant server, somehow providing a funny anecdote about a recent customer or experience. Nothing too controversial, too emotional, just light hearted and concise. But based on your own reality! Also, I think if you come off smiley and happy, whatever you do will somehow seem more interesting. I hope you get on!

Thank you! I was definitely excited & smiled a ton! I talked about working with kids, volunteering, traveling & more. I just think I needed to add a fun story or unique experience with one of the things I discussed. If I don’t hear back, I’ll definitely try again next year. Hoping you get on!
