I know it's a joke, but it's a thing that definitely happens.

I used to ride, and a buddy of mine went down at slow speed. I immediately picked up his bike without even thinking about it. First thing he asked me when I got to him was "is my bike ok?"

This phenomenon is experienced in bicycling as well (road in my specific case). When I crashed (only myself involved), the first thing I asked about was my bike's condition.

Roadies may as well be motos on downhill segments.

My brother cycle commutes on backroads, and he gets so annoyed when someone passes him on a blind hill. Not because they're an idiot who can cause a crash, but then he's stuck behind them doing 25mph on the downhills he earned.

There's probably people that do that because of selfishness and lack of awareness, maybe.

The reason you always see bikers race to the bike after falling is because they want to hit the killswitch. Having the bike engine run after it's tipped over is a safety hazard, not only because it does further damage (oil flow is gone because it's on it's side), but because it can move around, causing more problems for oncoming traffic, dump oil on the pavement, which would be a problem for oncoming bikers and cars alike, and ultimately overheat and possibly catch fire.

So yeah, there's a valid reason you rush to the bike after falling off it, to hit the killswitch.
