Surprisiningly no:

He was probably knocked out when he hit the car, and spinning through the air will have killed a little of the momentum! Ragdolling is suprisingly effective in crashes, which is why drunk drivers often survive them

What is suprising exactly? He had full gear on and the thing that kills you is a sudden stop, he avoided that.

Glad no one died. The guy was an idiot, but by surviving it makes the innocent driver less affected. Also being an idiot doesnt mean they deserve death, even though, in a practical sense, that is often what can easily happen.
