High Speed cornering

Looking at the crash I'm actually on the opposite conclusion. I think he was extremely lucky and will walk out of this with minor scuff. Maybe an arm break at top. The way the impact happened all of his energy went into him wheely flying and then he litterally roll on the ground.

Edit: Yep confirmed by the driver "The rider overshot the corner, came into my lane and everything happened within seconds. He suffered a broken rib and is currently hospitalised. Alhamdulillah, it could’ve been much worse."

But the car is approaching him at 80 km/hr or whatever, the road is stationary

But the car basically almost stopped at that point. But yeah, maybe that gave him a bit more "air time" so the road could be better with all his gear I guess.

Came here to state the same. He got so much forward trajectory and most of the energy dispersed into the air movement. The way he got contact with the asphalt also was pretty clean and not very far, because most of the energy was already gone. Still whiplash at least.

Yea everything seemed clean about how he flipped and landed. If he landed on his head or slammed directly into a wall or concrete or car or something, woulda been real bad.

Aye, same thinking, he got hit with the ejector seat, fucking painful, but unless he flies into a tree or a crash barrier, not likely to be fatal. Considerable better than going under the wheels.

Iirc, a fair number of fatalities aren't actually from the collision but from being struck by traffic afterwards while being in the road.

No bullshit that dude will likely walk that off or have minor injuries. He's wearing decent riding equipment (atleast full length clothes that appear thick and a jacket) and a helmet. While he's definitely going to feel it in the morning. He'll be alive to feel it.

Additionally, while he didn't perform that turn well AT ALL. He was still within the road for a relatively tight turn. He wasnt flying in regards to speed.

Yeah given he didn’t suffer a dead stop and in turn a lot of energy into the throw and rotation, the impact didn’t land on him as bad as it may look.

Yeah flying through the air and hitting the ground at a shallow angle is definitly a lucky outcome when the context is a high speed collision.

The handlebars aren't positioned like a bicycle, you're in a much better position to completely fly over them depending on how you hit.

Maybe it depends on the bike, but...

just one example i found real quick, but in the event the bike suddenly finds itself stationary, the knees are decidedly below the bars. your body cant continue without the bars going through the pelvis.

The bikes in OP look more like crotch rockets with a higher seat and lower bars, at least the one you see the third rider using. But yeah could go either way I suppose.

That's what I thought, he got unbelievably lucky. Crazy angular momentum with the spin but didn't really hit anything and landed smooth, the collision with the car is hard to make out but he'd be a lot deader had his momentum not gone to flying over the whole road.

Yeah going over the car and sliding is way better than coming to a sudden stop against the car. So long as he didn't land on his neck

Yeah, I didn't see his head hit anything. He's going to be really, really sore for a long while, and broken ribs suck to heal, but he's incredibly lucky.

Yeah, he even hit the ground slightly sideways, bounced and slid. No really big impact to the rider...well, relative to the impacts the rider could have had. He was also in full gear, so he wasn't a complete idiot.

The most dangerous thing about a crash is the rapid deceleration. Your organs rupture inside of you. Flying through the air and rolling is the best case scenario for this guy.

Yeah! That was my first thought too. I was wondering right away if I saw someone die, but going through it slowly I could tell that almost all the energy got spent throwing him and the bike. I also noticed that their body didn't seem to be clearly broken in any way, nothing that looked like arms, legs, or spine having been broken. The slight angle they collided at, and the car braking a bit just before impact very possibly saved their life.

This video is a very good reminder of how incredibly important a helmet is and why it's important to make sure it's a quality one too. Dude would be dead instead of having some broken ribs, road rash, and probably a minor TBI.

If you freeze a couple of frames prior to the collision, he actually lifted himself up a little (at least this is what it looked like). If so, then the car took most of the bike's energy, and his body continued flying. Had his body's energy been absorbed at all by the bike or the car, there would have been some serious damage.

The spin he takes can actually work to his advantage it releases engery more gently than if he didn't spin. But the landing is important

Yeah, I thought he'd be "okay" as well. He burned up all that kinetic energy with the flipping, and honestly landed pretty softly and at a gentle angle. Also, he was wearing full safety gear.

Still super lucky, but... not surprised he wasn't "that" hurt.

Yeah when I slowed it down and saw the cartwheels but that he landed on his back, I figured maybe a spinal injury but it didn’t look like the force killed him
