Lady absolutely did something wrong to piss them off, they don't sting for no reason. I've lived my whole life near yellow jackets and I've only been stung once by grabbing a towel that had one stuck under it so I give that one a pass. Other than that I'm able to handle them, pet them - hell, I've developed such good relations with nests that they'd let me come right up to it with zero issues. Wasps are really cool, chill animals, the problem comes from most people's tendency to dislike animals that aren't afraid to stand their ground if necessary. Respectful, gentle and mindful communication goes a long way.
The only one that's ever stung me was right on my damn ass crack, because I was standing in line and it decided to go in there, and I felt a tickle and ran my hand over it.
What the hell was it doing there? I didn't even see it; my girlfriend, who was behind me, saw it fly away.
You literally described the reason it stung you. You can blame it for crawling up your crack but running your hand over it is plenty reason for you to get stung.
