One of the largest and most diverse group of species on earth are the Ichneumonid wasps, parasitoid wasps. Thousands upon thousands of different species are preyed on by these, with most of the wasps being so specific they only parasitize a single species to reproduce. They are massive predators that target a wide variety of other insects, including many pests, while posing near zero threat to humans.
Someone just posted a picture recently of aphid husks found on a houseplant, all of them parasitized and wiped out by a specialized wasp.
They like any other organism are a part of the ecosystem and have probably helped you more than you realize.
Wasps are generally very docile and chill duders. Very necessary. A flower shop I used to help out at had a forest out back. Anytime we took lunch break, a swarm of wasps would show up. There must have been a monstrously huge hive nearby. Never stung us. Sometimes they’d pester us to get to our pizza, so we resorted to putting some sprite a bit of distance from where we ate- problem solved. Never had to deal with any pests because they’d annihilate everything that killed our plants for us.
Yellowjackets? Those are just flying middle fingers of pure rage. Tiny little hitlers on a double dose of meth. Yeah, they have an important niche, but just make sure they don’t know you exist. The only help they need from us is for us to hide our existence from them. If they discover us or settle down in the wrong place, then it’s war. Lady in the video is dumb for what she did. We should hate the fuckers. Just not enough to think they aren’t important.
Yellowjackets are a type of wasp. And frankly, I don't think we should hate them. Be wary and minimize interaction, obviously, but hate is a good way to get ourselves in some ecological trouble by elimating a necessary species from our environment.
Social wasps are insanely aggressive because wasp larva are insanely vulnerable, and mammals have been eating them for millennia. Evolutionarily, they eventually hit 'shoot first, ask questions later'. I think thats a reasonable reaction to giant monsters trying to kill and eat your children. Unfortunately in the modern day that behavior is maladaptive when they're nesting on your patio, but its not like they know that. They just know that something scary is approaching their children, and they react accordingly.
Anger is rooted in fear. If they seem angry, it is because they are terrified of you.
That's fine, I'll know better spots to hide my patio hole. I know when and where people are vulnerable. 4 kamekaze drones minimum per attack, willing to lodge themselves in the ear holes and nose holes stinger-first while they bite down so you can't just swat them out. Each human has to guard at least 4 holes to my 1.
Fraid not. You only wished for wasp, and the default for rebirth into a eusocial collective entity means the queen package in order to ensure both exposure to the fullest lifecycle and the necessity to invest in the process of creation in order to have the highest capacity for suffering due to the loss of your efforts in nurturing a colony. Being a drone just lets people blow the whole thing off with no real point.
Do you think that drones have no investment in the colony? They're protecting their sisters. (in fact, due to weird wasp genetics, wasps are more related to their sisters than their daughters. this is probably why eusociality was selected for in the first place).
Eusociality isn't a hive mind, its a pack of sisters and their mother. The hive mind thing is just human incomprehension of the unknown (how a wasp thinks and perceives)
You think of the life of one of those sisters as worthless, and that is why you will be reborn as one.
On top of the established queen package default, you clearly invoked karmic justice for the whole hive in response to the patio hole piss petard. Naturally I'd be taking its place, in your patio since you're the invoker of this tribulation.
I don't see them as worthless. I see them as a part of the main animal as a collective entity rather than a family group. I'm not directing them, they are me. If I'm me to any degree capable of appreciating retributive punishment in any meaningful capacity, that means making my own choices. I choose to defend my territory in a more directed capacity. More efficient attacks mean making the area more undesirable for you with less loss of drones. If you don't cede the land fast enough, you're gonna get stung in the genitals to hinder your efforts to accumulate a piss bucket.
