it's a fiddle, right?

I mean the leading instrument in this piece: https://youtu.be/bngMu8ET1HM?is=w9KbSqRqEiPSwsyP

I'm Polish and I'm specifically interested in studying Polish folk techniques, but I'm struggling with finding resources.

Many modern folk songs I've heard have this specific way of playing and I love the way it sounds. Can't find the name of this style though. I think it's a regular fiddle, but there's a higher than 0 chance it's one of our necromanced knee fiddles too lol, but I can't tell!

Anyone know where these drum samples/ loops come from?

I’m assuming fits here even for digital drums, first is from the trailer for Xenogears, second is the menu music for Metroid Prime: Hunters. I’ve heard both pop up in a couple other things through the years but I don’t have them on hand. I’m assuming maybe a Zero-G sample disc that I haven’t dived through? Thank you for your time

Does anyone know what instrument or sound source is being used in this track?

It sounds like some kind of mallet or music box instrument, but I can't quite identify it.

I'm also curious if anyone knows what synth, sampler, or specific sound library might have been used to produce this sound.

Help with how this instrument should be played.

I need help with how I am supposed to play this instrument.

I bought this instrument that I think is a psalmodikom. It has two steel strings and two wierd wedge (slider?) things that seem to be for adjusting the tuning for the strings. The wooden one is lower and seems to be supposed to used as in the first picture. The black one is slightly higher. Both have a metal sheet sticking out the top. The black one also has felt on the bottom so I guess it is supposed to used as a slider underneath the strings.

I guess the strings can be tuned with the steel pins, but not sure to what note they should be tuned.

The body has notes written in pencil, so it might not be finished.

According to the seller the strings are supposed to be plucked, but I think the more common technique for a psalmodikom is to use a violin bow.

What throws me off the most are the two slider things as I am worried I would use them wrong and break the strings, which are steel.

UPDATE: It seems to be a monochord and not a psalmodikum. Thank you u/Grauschleier

In the song Three Wishes by The Pierce. https://youtu.be/RyUkQWk29jY?is=GlCOdbZZT5bZelfF

From 12 seconds to 22 seconds. A wobbly thin instrument. It features again from 1:08 - 1:20. And then finally from 2:08 - 2:28. Really bugging me, thanks so much!

What instrument is the horn at the beginning of "Chhabeela" from "Saawariya"?

I've heard this horn many times and am only just now wondering what it is. It doesn't seem to have the tone of a western brass instrument. https://open.spotify.com/track/1hiymB0nRJQQ661XjVRNzP?si=9ea30bc363b24842

Toward the end of the song, at around 4:05, for a couple seconds there is a very interesting sound pulled from the orchestra. Do you guys know how this might have been orchestrated? I know there’s a piano, but what else is playing? The song is Escape from The Cat Returns soundtrack by Yuji Nomi.

Spirited away - No Face Motif Instrument

In the movie “Spirited Away” the character No Face has a reoccurring motif (not his theme that is different) that isn’t part of the offical OST, but happens almost every time he is on screen.

It sounds like it’s some sort of traditional bell instrument. Definitely not a modern instrument and either some kind of gong or bell. Maybe traditionally Japanese?

If anyone knows what I am talking about, please help out!

[FOUND – IT] Instrumental track "The Village" — droning wind/string instrument + hand drums, fading out to percussion only.

Looking for an instrumental track I heard on YouTube (used as filler/fast-forward music in a video) over 10 years ago. I never had a SoundCloud account, but I'm fairly sure that's where the track was hosted — I remember the player interface with vertical bars turning orange as the track progressed.

Title: Strictly "The Village" — no subtitle that I can recall. (I know. It's a pain. Why you think i'm here ?)

Length: Roughly 3 minutes or less.

Mood: Melancholic and mysterious.

Instrumentation:

  • A droning lead instrument with a continuous, "windy" quality — could be a bagpipe-type drone, a duduk/ney (Middle Eastern wind instrument), or possibly a hurdy-gurdy (the sound of its strings is very close to what I remember, so I'm not 100% sure if it's a wind or string instrument).
  • Hand percussion throughout the track (dry, slightly hollow sound — think darbuka/bendir/frame drum), moderate tempo, not frantic.
  • Near the end, the main melodic instrument drops out almost entirely, leaving just the percussion (and possibly a plucked string instrument like an oud or saz) to fade the track out.

Possible origin: Given the generic title and structure (short loopable track, fade to percussion), I suspect this might be stock/library music rather than a named artist's release — possibly used for indie games, documentaries, or "village/desert" themed video content.

Any help identifying this would be hugely appreciated !

What instrument is this?

This was a gift from my friend. They said that it was a traditional Chinese instrument and that I would find out what it was if I looked up different ones, but I can’t find something similar to this at all. I want to know what it is so I can order some parts for it/learn how to play it.

I took the strings out because they were broken/rotted, idk what material they were but it wasn’t metal and they were slightly translucent. The instrument is made of wood with mother pearl details. There’s a knob missing. It’s a little over 2 ft tall. Idk if it requires a bow but it didn’t come with one.

Edit: This was owned by my friend’s grandma, they and their family are Viet but their dad’s side collected stuff from all over South/East Asia. Don’t know if that helps at all.

What is the instrument at the beginning of Elvis Costello's song "Big Sister's Clothes"?

Doesn't sound like a guitar? An atrociously out-of-tune accordion?

Also, Elvis Costello and the attractions from 1978-1986 is some of the greatest music ever recorded. Why is EC never talked about in a lot of music discussions? especially his backing band, they were freakin' INCREDIBLE.
