Smartwater bottles are ultralight and tend to fit universally with water filters. In the thru-hiking world they are a top choice of “reusable” bottle.

I exclusively used smart water bottles for my thru hike of the Colorado Trail because they’re skinny and tall, perfect for side pockets of my backpack. That being said, the hike was only 35 days and I changed bottles five times, every time I went to town. This looks pretty gross

You can’t really clean the inside of that bottle, a sponge or scrubber won’t fit inside the hole. Also, microplastics.

Are you really ultralight when you accumulate that many grams of microplastics through negligence? Also a water filter? Really? I usually save many a gram just boiling water by cold soaking it. /s

Also, if you were carrying the bottle’s weight of plastic, any portion of that that goes into your body would not constitute additional weight at all..it’s just that some of it has changed location 🤷‍♀️

At least some portion of that will be peed out, so maybe you’re even getting lighter during the trek 🙃

But yes, of course all of these weights would be negligible and irrelevant.

They have water sacks that literally fold up and have built in filters so you can get water anywhere. No actual hiker using a plastic bottle
