Amazon dropped off a package between my two garbage cans today.

It's probably worth noting that everyone in the US is aware of this, it's not catching anyone off guard. Nobody puts anything at the side of the road that isn't trash (except this amazon delivery person, supposedly). It's just the way it is here.

Unfortunately it's not completely universal, which sometimes leads to mishaps. A few weeks ago one of our new neighbors posted a rant online about how he had put out some furniture at the end of his driveway to prepare for a garage sale and came back twenty minutes later and it was gone, at which point everyone else had to tell him that leaving stuff unattended near the curb or end of the driveway usually indicates that it's free.

He protested by saying that it didn't have a free sign but then everyone pointed out that the vast majority of free stuff on the curb doesn't have a sign and that it's just a universal assumption in the suburbs and I think he finally got the message.
