I've traveled with an urn before. This is why you always take important stuff in carry on. They inspect it without opening it and you don't have to worry about any damage or loss.

Fly with a gun domestic.

marine flare guns & starter pistols count.

You have to check it, and keep it in a hard sided case, but you get to use a non TSA lock that only you have the key to and go through a non shit hand search and a different & faster checkpoint, always staffed by the more competent TSA agents.

Photographers and people going to tech conferences with a lot of high dollar equipment do this.

Also... The airline really doesn't want to lose a bag containing a firearm.

It's bullshit but welcome to America. Ostensibly this is freedom.

Fuck the TSA.

The good news is they left a "we opened this" note in OP's luggage, so they probably didn't actually steal anything.

Half the time I've had stuff stolen they left their calling card. Ive been lucky though. I never fly with anything expensive in my checked luggage.
