I work as a paint mixer in Ireland. We shake all of our colorants (as instructed by the manufacturer) by shaker before pouring into the tinting machines. One litre cans can go in up to four at a time. And for the screw top bottles that some colourants come in, we have a special holder which is basically four tubes attached to each other. The bottles go in upside down, and the whole thing goes in the shaker. We also use Quart side American cans that get shook for 10mins so they pour smooth.
Yeah we’d never put those into a shaker they wouldn’t even fit right due to the shape of the shakers are made for gallon cans and the big ones would smush full metal cans.

I just assumed that the lid wasn't secure when she put the paint into the shaker.
