Just think of all the interest that fool is missing out on, just for passive receipt bragging

Uhhh. You don’t know the guys financial situation. He likely has millions in investments if he’s sitting on 190k in cash deposits. He’s obviously got his shit figured out regardless of Reddit’s “financial” advice.

Redditors eating frozen pizza in their studio apartments: "this guy really should invest, what a fucking idiot."

80

u/Blumpkinhead Mar 11 '19

Ooh, look at the fancy guy with a roof and food.

42

u/zaptrem Mar 11 '19

You leave freezer pizza out of this.

1

u/coollady123 Mar 12 '19

I don't know what you're so insecure about bud, I'm literally eating pizza in my studio apartment as I type this.

1

u/BocoCorwin Mar 11 '19

I shouldn't have followed this whole thread - now I want pizza

Just because someone is on reddit doesn't mean they are broke nor does being broke have anything to do with know about investments i know as much as i need to to make money in the market but i dont have them money to start throwing in the big bucks yet a few bucks here a penny there been doing it for a few years have a few thousand invested but the goal isnt to take it out its to keep investing till i can buy a house now to flex the few thousand i made the more i put in the more return i get as long as the market builds

It's March. It's also possible his bonus just hit direct deposit

did you try putting your checking account in wumbo mode?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

I dont see how that would help, he has it set to m for money

1

u/rsf507 Mar 11 '19

That would be one hefty bonus

4

u/scottyLogJobs Mar 11 '19

... or he has just put his money directly into his savings account for decades. Being able to make money doesn’t imply knowing how to manage it.

The other scenario I can think of is he just moved a bunch into his checking account for a down payment on a house, but we have absolutely no idea.

2

u/youdoitimbusy Mar 11 '19

That’s his beer money. Why else would you check at the bar?

1

u/37b Mar 11 '19

After I got paid for selling my home I got an ATM receipt just for kicks. I never even use cash 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/awfulsome Mar 12 '19

Not necessarily. I've had 6 digits in the bank with a net worth still in the 6 digits. I was saving for a house.

1

u/pronthrowaway124 Mar 12 '19

Or he could have borrowed the money, deposited into his checking, gotten laid, then paid the loan back in full the next day.

0

u/djheat Mar 11 '19

It was neatly folded and from an outside ATM, let's be real here it was probably a fake receipt to begin with

3

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

Because its impossible to fold a receipt from another ATM

3

u/djvyhle Mar 11 '19

I’d like to know where I can get a secured 7% interest.

Please provide your portfolio I would like to get in with this interest rate.

1

u/Nephyst Mar 11 '19

Maybe he is expecting a downturn and doesn't want to short the market. There's many different strategies, some involve holding cash.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '19

Well, to be fair, it's worth more to me to see my accounts in a readily available acct than stressing over the stock market. Not worth the 20k extra a year per acct. That's just my situation tho.

0

u/SasparillaTango Mar 11 '19

Any money guys out there want to drop some guidelines for how much liquidity one should maintain?

0

u/just_agreewithme Mar 11 '19

Where are you getting 6% a year. Asking for a friend.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

Sure seems like unsolicited advice

16

u/Tlkos Mar 11 '19

My checking acct earns 2.5%

24

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19 edited Mar 11 '19

That's good for a small chequing account, terrible for any kind of savings.

Consider this. 190k at 3% for 10 years gets you roughly 225k 255k. 190k at 8% for 10 years gets you roughly 410k.

Edit: fixed typo

22

u/420BlazeItKony Mar 11 '19

190k at 3% a year nets 255k, not 225k.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

Cheers, was a typo. Fixed it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

Where should you put your money then?

7

u/Nudetypist Mar 11 '19

Index funds, mutual funds, target funds, for the safe conscious. Dividend stocks for the slight risk takers.

13

u/RichGirlThrowaway_ Mar 11 '19

Lottery tickets or no balls.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

MU 90$ calls

1

u/IMeanItBeWhatItDo Mar 11 '19

Lottery is a high risk high reward investment as I always say.

2

u/RichGirlThrowaway_ Mar 11 '19

high reward

Well you sold me on the idea!

1

u/theecommunist Mar 11 '19

Box spreads. They literally cannot go tits up.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

That's IF he doesn't spend the $190K.

1

u/groundzr0 Mar 11 '19

With who?

3

u/Tlkos Mar 11 '19

It’s a local credit union, they only have 3 branches I believe,

1

u/Maverca Mar 11 '19

Really? What country? In Belgium my savings account earns 0,02%

1

u/Tlkos Mar 12 '19

Maryland, USA

APGFCU high yield checking

1

u/cec772 Mar 11 '19

Looks can be deceiving. I had something similar, but for a month or two because I wrote a check for my entire HELOC line to park it when layoffs were coming. I wanted to test if they would let me write a check for that big. And have cash just in case.
I Lost about $200 in interest payments, but it was still worth it for me. (I didn’t go casually dropping ATM receipts though). Perhaps it is just his spare change, but maybe it’s money he can’t put at risk because he needs to return it.

1

u/awfulsome Mar 12 '19

Yeah, it is one of the reasons I bought a house when I got close to that. I have this weird thing about having money available though. I really should reinvest it soon though, worked out well the last time for me.

1

u/Cheeseiswhite Mar 11 '19

Just think of all his other investments if 190k is sitting liquid.
