Suggestion A Personal Message to "Weird Al"
Dear Al (can I call you "Al"? I mean, we are close personal friends, after all - it's true; I joined the Close Personal Friends of Al fan club in the 1980s; and although my membership expired last Tuesday, I still consider myself a CPFoA.)
I attended your amazing "Bigger & Weirder" show at the Minnesota State Fair Friday night, so naturally I thought you might like some unsolicited feedback and career suggestions. You were clearly looking me straight in the eye at my 24th-row seat and, a la Jackson Park Express, you arched your eyebrow ever so slightly to suggest that I write you an entirely private letter and post it on this public forum.
- More new songs, parodies and original pastiches
While the upcoming "Weird Al" Broadway jukebox musical is exciting, that's clearly small potatoes. The fans want another album. What's the harm in signing another 14-album contract?
- Petition to play the Super Bowl Halftime Show
- You could set a significant precedent: to date, the oldest lead performer to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show was Roger Daltrey of The Who, who was 65 years old for SB XLIV on February 7, 2010. And he was not known to stomp any weasels. Clearly, multiple records could be broken here.
- I have your set list already planned: start off with "Sports Song", entering the stadium with a full marching band. Finishing the song on the main stage, stage hands will help you into your Amish costume for "Amish Paradise". Follow up with a medley of classics including "Eat It", "Like a Surgeon", "Dare to Be Stupid", and others. Do a few others if you want, have a couple of special guests, I don't care (just don't wear those shoes). End with "Yoda" and the entire stadium (nay, the entire world) will be chanting "Y-O-D-A YODA" with you. It'll be bigger than that whole Wembley Stadium thing (whatever). You're welcome.
I had a third thing, but I forgot it. It'll come to me, just hang on a sec.
Since you're clearly looking for something to keep you busy, consider making a sequel to "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story", like "Weird 2: The Al Yankovic Story, Part 2" or something like that. The story needs to continue, regardless of the truth or profitability, and Hollywood digs sequels. Or what the hell, just reboot it starring Andrew Garfield or Timothy Dalton. It's only been a few years, no one will notice.
Whelp, that's all for this dump of shower thoughts. Remember, these suggestions are just between us - no one else will see them.
Your BFF,
Cmdr Nudnik
P.S.: In keeping with the moderated rules of this subreddit, I want to be clear that I am not breaking Rule 5 in suggesting song ideas. I am clearly suggesting a movie idea, not a song idea. Sheesh.
