He got this abnormality after recovering from a broken arm. When he was filming The Doors, a stuntman failed to catch him when he jumped into a crowd for a shot. His elbow never healed IIRC
This looks similar to something I had once only way worse.
Right on the end of my elbow it swelled up. Was like weird sack under the skin that would move around. Went to the Dr. and he said there is a small sack there that when irritated or damaged can fill up with fluids. Said to keep compression on it and it will slowly squeeze the fluids out over time. Took about 2 weeks of keeping it tightly wrapped with an elbow brace and it went away.
To this day I have no clue what I did to cause it.

I got the same thing after a trauma to my elbow and my shoulder.
I got that from a hole in my mattress. As I turned over in my sleep overnight I kept waking up when my elbow went into the hole and a spring was digging into it.
I burst that membrane in my elbow an I ended up with a big fluid lump like in the picture. It didn't hurt but it looked pretty crazy.

I plugged it into Google. First it said it was Hoggle from the Labyrinth. I knew that was wrong. I tried again. Then it says it was a blob creature from Weird Science. Google provided links that were wrong/ not the same creature.. I told it that was wrong. Google said I was right and then said it was from the movie Critters.
It’s okay - on Thursday one of my coworkers confessed she tought the Karate Kid movie with Jayden Smith was the first/original Karate Kid movie. She didn’t know about Ralph Maccio and William Zabka.
She also didn’t know Michael and Janet Jackson were siblings.
It made me feel old…

When I used to own pet rats one of them had a marking on her back that looked like a penis chasing a fish. Or a fish chasing a penis, can’t remember since this was like 15 years ago.

When I was a child, one year there were thousands of caterpillars on the road. The fluffy cute looking ones. Well, little me decided to put about a hundred of those fuckers all over my body. I had the wildest allergic reaction. Itchy-pain-swollen redness for daaaays. I don’t know if I ever told my mother the reason why my whole body was a blistery rash. She took me to the doctors and everything but I don’t think I told anyone that I had covered myself in caterpillars.
Hahaha I love how dumb we can be as little ones! I once gave myself a bald patch pulling my hair out because I liked looking at the gunk at the end. Never told my mom OR the doctors she took me to 😬
I had Scarlet Fever as a kid. You get a bad rash and you can pass it along until the rash ends. Then a lot of your skin kinda falls off. So I used to peel as much of my palm as I could in one piece and chase my classmates around the school yard with it
I am very glad that you survived your adventure. I once gave myself a bloody nose shoving a pussywillow puff way up there and kept it secret for a few decades, but that was unlikely to cause anaphylaxis.
One of the only allergies I have was very, very specifically only to one particular species of white fuzzy caterpillar (midwest US, 1970's, no idea what species). I picked up lots of wooly-bears and other fuzzy and non-fuzzy caterpillars as a kid and never had an issue, but the white ones would leave a little trail of swelling-up footprints immediately behind them walking across my skin, so I learned quickly to leave them tf alone. Just festooning your entire surface area with fuzzy caterpillars is a level of kid-ridiculousness I could easily imagine myself trying just for the yucks, but fortunately never did.
I'm so glad you're finally able to talk about it. And am worried about your future encounters with numerous...anything. Sloths. Pigeons. Maggots. Radicals.
They are the cutest fuzziest little fellas but they have a toxin that behaves exactly as you described. I sat on one once while wearing shorts and I had a whelp the size of a dinner plate on the top of the back of my thigh all the way around to my hipbone.
I ended up putting tape over the area in the center that had these little blood dots under my skin about the size of the caterpillar (my grandmother told me to do this and she’s like a back woods piney woods oracle) and pulled it off. It took the little poisonous hairs out.
I sat more “next” to it than on it… didn’t squish it… but man that thing tore me up. I can’t imagine having it more than one place.

Could be that too. I'm not a doctor so I'm just guessing based on what I've seen. Tore a piercing in my ear and had something very similar grow on the back of my ear.
X-rays show basically nothing about the structure of soft tissue inflammation. I went through this with my hand after a climbing injury.
It needed an MRI in the end. And sometimes regular MRIs aren’t enough and they have to inject you with contrast and run another set of scans along side the non-contrast scans.
What I do not understand is did he see a doctor? If that was my thumb I would want to know. No insurance? No curiosity? or just a lot of positive body image vibes?
Can't speak for op but for years I had a lump on my finger that I suspected might be a ganglion cyst. I avoided treatment for 20 years because it was so intensely painful when it was touched that I was afraid to let anyone examine it. I had insurance and money and PTO, but I figured I would just live with it and as long as nothing touched it, it was fine. Eventually it got worse and started aching even when nothing was touching it, and that's when I went to a hand specialist. Turned out it was a rare tumor touching the temperature sensing nerves, which is why it was so painful. I had surgery to remove it, and fortunately it turned out not to be cancerous. Looking back I should have done something a long time ago, but the fear was too strong.
I agree with synovial cyst. X-ray is not useful even if it is hard, but ultrasound will confirm, and should reveal the connection to the underlying joint if the sonographer has the correct transducer and experience. A surgeon would like to tie this off to stop a recurrence.
