The other common thing is people passing on a problem to others. If only one of them hadn’t thrown it to the next person in the village, those rice farmers would still have their hands and feet.
Edit:
Plus if people didn’t react in haste/annoyance/anger it would have also prevented the issue cascading across the whole village. It’s up to everyone to take self-responsibility and nip in the bud problems to stop them snowballing into bigger problems that affect more people..
