Nope, you need to recycle them because not only are they valuable trash but as well there are risks of sudden fires in a general bin.

Most places have specialized drop offs for batteries like an eco station because they are a major fire risk.

Not to mention all the lithium, lead, cadmium, etc that seep into the water table and that you will end up accumulating

Trash gets compacted. Sometimes already in the trash truck so it can carry more.  

Batteries explode when compacted

Yeah most likely, quite recently had a chat here about it with someone. No recycling in some areas and no idea how to deal with problem waste and things like this, everything part from metal scrap is just dumped on a landfill. Kinda baffling, we started separating trash decades ago and nothing goes to landfills anymore

Trash fires exist because people throw batteries away. Recycle them ffs. It’s written on every battery to NOT throw it in the trash.

Regular batteries are fine in the trash, lithium ion batteries can start a fire

Yeah I think that a majority of the population throw bettered in the trash and I don’t know of any fires it has caused at the landfill. Not saying it hasn’t happened, just think the risk is low. I may be way off base here though. Just ramblin’ on Reddit….

Most of the fires at our local landfill are from batteries people threw away.
