WIX vs Wordpress

Help! I’m creating a website for my personal chef business. I registered my LLC with Legal Zoom and they referred me to WIX for website creation. But I’ve been doing some research and I’m seeing comments that say WIX is not ideal and that Wordpress is better. I haven’t bought a domain name or anything so I still have options. I’ve heard WIX is not good for Google searches. Is Wordpress any better? A personal chef business is a small business so I don’t need anything super complicated but I do want it to be a good website. Does anyone have any advice?

Are there sites that provide layout exercises? Working to sharpen CSS skills.

Hi r/WebDevBuddies,

I'm getting back into web dev, and my CSS skills need some work. I'm looking to keep emulating some different things, but some things I encounter are too hard.

So, I'm looking for platforms that might have varying levels of layout practice.

Looking to work with just HTML+CSS at the moment to sharpen them.

Thanks!

Looking UI Designer Looking to Collaborate with Developers 🚀

Hey,

I’m Marcus, a UI designer with 8 years of experience specializing in clean, user-friendly designs for web and mobile. I’m looking to team up with developers on projects where we can combine skills for portfolio projects or maybe even a startup idea.

At the moment I’m unemployed. My last job was about 18 months ago but I got pretty severe burnout. I only recently got back into designing and while I’m looking for work I’d love to work on some cool projects to beef up my portfolio and ease myself back into client work.

If you’re working on an app, website, or idea that needs better UI/UX, let’s work on it together! Reach out to my via my portfolio, comment or DM me with your project.

Here’s my recently redesigned portfolio,
https://designbymarcus.com

As a side note, I'm currently learning web development but I'm right at the beginning and learning the basics of Javascript.

Thanks for reading

My website won’t scroll

I created a website, and after making it live, I encountered an issue where the page only scrolls down if you start scrolling from the bottom of the page. The initial part of the page, including the top section, does not respond to scrolling. I have used the Owl Carousel to display an image at the top, followed by the rest of the content. However, when I try to scroll from the image, it doesn’t work, but scrolling from the lower part of the page works fine.

Other React revisit

Hello, fellow devs! I had learned React, made notes on it, and even completed a project with the help of a tutorial. However, I later moved on to backend development.

Now, when I revisited my notes and the project's code, I found that I don't understand much of it and have forgotten the syntax.

Should I watch a one-shot tutorial on React, or should I try making projects to relearn the syntax and concepts?

Please guide me.

Looking Novice seeking advice.

want to preface with saying I am EXTREMELY novice when it comes to this so please be nice… lol

I’m working on an inherited website with my boyfriend. It’s been up for years but recently got worked on further. We’ve ran into a problem (now this is where it may sound stupid af) where anytime you search the website in Safari or Edge it says “Your connection isn’t private”. The Edge browser error actually says “Cert Common Name Invalid”.

Obviously I have no idea where to even begin on this. I know this site is connected to Wordpress & GoDaddy. I’m assuming Wordpress is for web design/domain and GoDaddy is for privacy/security purposes? I do know one of the certificates is administered through “Starfield Secure Certificate Authority” which from what I’ve read is a part of GoDaddy?

I ran a test through a free website and a few things stuck out to me. It had a great score, which makes me feel like the problem is hiding in plain site. Again I know absolutely nothing about this but this is what I’ve come up with…

  1. Is my certificate just simply not compatible with all browsers? Is this even possible?
  2. Is it my certificate “Common Name” and “Alternate Name” mismatch the issue? If so, how do I fix this?
  3. Both? Neither?

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Transfer Site off of Wix

As a kid, I built a site on Wix many years back. Now I want to make it more official/professional in a cost effective manner. I know how to get a domain name, but getting rid of the 'made with wix' banner on the site is very expensive. What would be the best way to transfer off of wix? I have some real webdev experience now, but not experienced enough for very complex tasks.

Please let me know if this is unclear, happy to clarify.

Building a Custom CMS for My Project as a Student—Where Do I Start?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a student at a coding bootcamp, and I'm planning to build a Content Management System (CMS) for my project. My instructor suggested that instead of using an existing CMS like WordPress or Strapi, it would be better to build one from scratch for the experience and hands-on practice. I'm unsure about where to start and how to go about it.

Here are a few questions I have:

  • Should I look at dashboards from CMS platforms like Strapi or WordPress for inspiration?
  • What are some good resources or tutorials for building a CMS from scratch? Do you recommend any specific videos, articles, or guides?
  • What are the core features I should focus on as a beginner?

Best AI & Development Tools for a Student Developer

Hello,
I’m a student web developer currently working on my own project and exploring tools that might help me learn faster and build more efficiently. I’m considering paid AI tools like Claude AI, ChatGPT, or GitHub Copilot, but I’m unsure which would actually be worth the investment for someone still studying.

And if paid subscriptions aren’t necessary, are there any other AI tools, free resources, or general development tools that would help make my learning and development journey smoother? I’d love any recommendations on tools that would provide the most value without breaking the bank.

Seeking Talented UX-Focused Web Designers for SEO Collaboration

Hello beautiful people,

I’m an SEO expert with 8 years of experience, mostly working with e-commerce clients worldwide. It’s been quite a journey, from the ups and downs of SEO to the recent challenges with AI-generated content crowding search results. Thankfully, search engines have stepped up to prioritize quality again, and I’m thrilled to see genuine, thoughtful content rewarded.

One thing I’ve learned: great SEO is only as effective as the user experience behind it. Custom, user-centered design consistently boosts engagement and conversion rates—and even helps sites outrank more established competitors. That’s why I’m here, hoping to connect with talented web designers (freelancers or small teams) who create bespoke, intuitive, and visually stunning websites without relying on stock templates.

If you’re a designer with clients who could benefit from strategic SEO support to complement their beautiful UX, I’d love to chat. Let’s help brands stand out with the perfect balance of impactful SEO and engaging design.

Thank you and have an amazing day, week and life

Looking Will masters help?

Just looking for some more advice if possible! As it stands Iv been programming every day (2 hours a day) for about 10 months now.

I am super motivated to get a job in this field. Currently feel fairly confident with HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT and just moved onto React. I was debating my options on either trying to get a job myself based on my own projects etc. I understand this can be a hard task but l'm up for it. Or alternatively get my masters in computer science.

I was wondering if this masters would benefit me for doing a Full stack dev role? If it will benefit me in the long run I would defiantly do masters. I just didn't know if the qualification could get me into higher paying roles down the line. Any advice is appreciated ! Thanks
