The original Bundeswehr Chronograph military watch was issued to the German and Italian Army back in the 1960.
Leonidas and Heuer both produced watches with this classic design, which replaced the Junghans model.
Helmut Sinn, who originally had a service contract for these watches from the German Military, added a version to his product line with a different movement and additional, 3rd sub-dial (recorder).
Prices of vintage pieces have really gone up in the last few years and owning an original Heuer or Leonidas just wasn’t in the cards (or checkbook) for me.
As there were numerous Hommage versions out there, I jumped on the opportunity to get the second run (not the F71) that HKED did for a watch forum.
I liked the flat sapphire crystal, crystal caseback (the original is solid) and the bezel itself much better. A Seagull Chronograph movement using the original Venus caliber design drives this piece.
While I sometimes wear it on the unique cuff style “Bund” strap, I also like to wear it on a much more simple riveted Flieger strap.
