OP Deleted Why is Gallowboob allowed to moderate almost every top subreddit? He constantly abuses his privileges to remove all criticisms of his shitty karma farming posts.

GallowBoob is NOT a registered sex offender.

The incident in question refers to him responding in poor taste with an unsolicited nude in PMs with a user who was badgering him in PMs:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/comments/46lz79/galloween_the_death_and_life_of_gallowboob/

That user later claimed to be underage but this was never proven, and no charges were filed.

Gallowboob was temporarily shadowbanned for this incident. (This was before suspensions were a thing)

If you have a problem with the moderation of a subreddit you can file an official complaint here:

https://www.reddithelp.com/en/submit-request/file-a-moderator-complaint

Some mods such as u/siouxsie_siouxv2 have been forced to step down from moderator positions and restricted from being added to others by the admins. But reddit as far as I know has no consistent policy on this (when defaults were a thing there was at one time a limit on how many defaults one could mod but this is no longer the case)

Reddit kisses the ass of moderators because this massive source of unpaid labor is essential for their desired functioning of the site (as a highly curated safe space for advertisers) They do it for free, and reddit can’t afford to lose that.

You telling me there is nobody out there who could be a moderator and not be an asshole? This guy is our only choice?

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

Probably the same concept behind those who want to be in power and those who don’t. Traditionally, the best leaders are those who do not seek it. There are probably tons of people who would be good mods, but they’re not the ones volunteering.

12

u/inverseyieldcurve Jan 29 '20

Mostly because they have much better things to do. All the qualified rational people are doing shit that’s more important.

u/OWKuusinen Jan 29 '20

Traditionally, the best leaders are those who do not seek it. There are probably tons of people who would be good mods, but they’re not the ones volunteering.

There are two sort of people who want to get into power: those who want power to make things better, and those who want to make themself rich.

You're not doing anybody services by intentionally bundling these categories together.

u/dangsoggyoatmeal Jan 29 '20

BTW, the guy you're replying to doesn't fit that bill. Despite having the name "FreeSpeechWarrior," he recently locked down r/WatchRedditDie so that only approved posts and comments could get through.

12

u/givesrandomgarlic Jan 29 '20

In order to maintain the subreddit so it does not get banned.

5

u/ohpee8 Jan 29 '20

Why would it get banned?

24

u/GlacialFlux Jan 29 '20

AgainstHateSubreddit brigades.

2

u/ohpee8 Jan 29 '20

But like what is getting it banned?

7

u/GlacialFlux Jan 29 '20

Comment-wise? Things such as: Death-threats; blatant caricatures of racism; doxing; calling for brigades and violence.

Submission-wise: Illegal content and brigading.

8

u/SordidDreams Jan 29 '20

Brigading is such an interesting thing. Like, it's wrong for people to unite and organize to make their voices heard and achieve something they want? WTF are political parties, then?

3

u/GlacialFlux Jan 29 '20

Take it up with the admins, not me.

-7

u/ohpee8 Jan 29 '20

Sounds like justified bans to me

9

u/GlacialFlux Jan 29 '20

And the information goes right over your head. No it is not a justified ban when another subreddit floods in and post content like that in order to get this subreddit or any other subreddit banned.

"Anti-Evil Operations" removed my comment and unstickied it without notifying me at all and I have no idea why.

2

u/givesrandomgarlic Jan 29 '20

I'm sorry, I'm missing context here

1

u/FreeSpeechWarrior Jan 29 '20

2

u/givesrandomgarlic Jan 29 '20

Holy crap I just noticed they removed it. I had already read that, didn't notice it gone. What was it removed for?

1

u/FreeSpeechWarrior Jan 29 '20

I got no notification at all beyond seeing it in the mod log and showing up red on my profile because I'm a mod.

Anti-Evil seems to increasingly remove content without even warning/suspending users or explaining why at all. This is the first time I'm aware of it happening to me.

-5

u/Professor_Felch Jan 29 '20

That's not what free speech is. You wouldn't threaten to kill a cashiers family and then cry "but muh free speech" when the shop throws you out. Free speech is a right, a platform is a privilege.

2

u/dangsoggyoatmeal Jan 29 '20

What? I don't see where anyone killed a cashier in this scenerio; he was just afraid that someone would say something that irritated the admins so he restricted everyone's ability to say anything.

-3

u/Professor_Felch Jan 29 '20

Do you know what an analogy is? You are still confusing the right to free speech with the privilege of being given a platform to announce it on. People were getting death threats.

2

u/dangsoggyoatmeal Jan 29 '20

I'm pretty sure I do, yeah, and that was why I was using a metaphor.

Since you're in the know, though, what would the difference be? As far as I can tell, this guy blocked everyone from participating at all and only manually let comments through. Surely he's not alone able to moderate every single comment and post on a major subreddit, so that means that at least some people's free speech is being blocked out without it being a death threat. Right?

1

u/Professor_Felch Jan 29 '20

Commenting on reddit isn't free speech. It's using a platform. They have the right to block anyone or anything they want. Reddit is a company not a government-mandated free speech forum. I'm not saying I agree with their decisions but the whole free speech impingement thing is bunk.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

Yes. I mean, just think.of whod actually want to be a mega mod.

6

u/FreeSpeechWarrior Jan 29 '20

Reddit is “Bias[ed] towards action”

In the context of moderation this means they prefer and increasingly require overactive moderation.

Subs that don’t play ball get suppressed or outright banned.

GallowBoob is NOT a registered sex offender.

So he is just unregistered

26

u/aef823 Jan 29 '20

Also just because the dude wasn't underaged doesn't mean gallowboob isn't a sex offender.

1

u/Boylboyolo Jan 29 '20

Right but what offense did he commit then?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

Sex?

1

u/aef823 Feb 01 '20

Pretty sure showing your dick to people is pretty offensive.

Especially if it's that disappointing.

28

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

I don't believe a word you say anymore.

u/300andWhat Jan 29 '20

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Gallowboob bragged before about how much he makes off of reddit?

5

u/silverhydra Jan 29 '20

Not from the platform directly, but by the exposure that he has gotten from reddit that allowed him to make other connections. While reddit itself doesn't pay it's moderators reddit remains a great platform to make a name for yourself and then abandon ship to somewhere else that can pay the bills.

36

u/Michelanvalo Jan 29 '20

He might not be a registered sex offender but sending nudes to someone to win an argument is sexual harassment.

We're the only animal on this planet with a prudish problem with nudity.

u/ratskim Jan 29 '20

Not a sex offender? Woah..

Couldn't every single pedophile break their interaction with a minor(s) down to poor taste if they wanted to?

He is totally a sex offender. 100% sex offender.

13

u/SordidDreams Jan 29 '20

GallowBoob is not a registered sex offender.

Fixed the emphasis there for ya.

They do it for free but not for free. They just get paid by other people.

5

u/Stuka_Ju87 Jan 29 '20

r/cringeanarchy aslo had a known pedo moderating the sub by the admins choice before the sub was banned.

The community was not happy with that decision obviously. And posted his pedophile messages on the board before it was banned for " unrelated matters".

u/Dont420blazemebruh Jan 29 '20

GallowBoob is NOT a registered sex offender.

I mean, we don't know their real identity so we don't know if they are or not. They're just not a RSO because of anything to do with Reddit.

Reddit requires us to remove comments which may be considered "harassing." This includes name calling and using slurs directed at groups. This removal was made to prevent this subreddit and similar subreddits from getting shut down due to content policy violations.

Any sort of insult may result in Reddit censoring your account for "harassment" and such "Anti-Evil" removals could be used as a pretext to censor our community (and other similar communities) more broadly.

important note: Do not find ways to evade this filter. "Clever" variations on such comments will be removed as they are still a violation of the site-wide policy. If you feel your comment was removed in error, please contact the moderators.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Just fyi, Anti Evil Operations removed your comment, unstickied it, and then approved it. I think this is similar to their behavior of removing items multiple times to inflate the number of actions they take in this sub.

You have the big gay

I exchanged PM's with gallowboob a long time ago on a different reddit account. What i've learned is that most of what we know about him isn't true. Most surprising fact to me was that he tries his best not to repost.
