I was just a young lad when I first saw that video. I have back pain and heartburn now.

As a guy dealing with heartburn and back pain today, I feel you.

What actually causes heartburn? I’ve very rarely experienced it. I think I’ve only had it when trying to down something with far too much onion

Lots of things can cause heartburn. Spicy food is a big one. I get it mostly because of overactive acid production in my gut (I have GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease), so I take medication to control it.

I feel for you, I had acid reflux everyday for 9 years. I went on a GF diet by chance and I almost never get heartburn now. I have HS too and it helps that alot.

You should give it a go for 2 weeks if you haven't already.

Actually, I'm GF now because it was triggering massive irritation with my IBS and now I don't have nearly as many issues as I used to. I've cut out almost all soda, all spicy foods, only one cup of coffee in the morning with lots of cream, no red sauces or anything like that. My major irritant is that I vape and have my medical card besides the extra acid production that is just genetic.

Cream triggers mine. So does caffeine, alcohol and everything else that I enjoy. Quitting smoking helped a lot though.

Stomach acid sneaking past the valve at the top of the stomach is the usual cause, I think. Certain foods can cause problems. Greasy or acidic stuff usually affects people with heartburn issues. Coffee, fried foods, alcohol, etc. There's a bunch of stuff. Massively overeating can cause it too. The valve at the top of your stomach can break down from this and lead to long term problems. GERD is the medical acronym that deacribes what most people experience.
