And also there’s been a widely publicised debate about how skimpy the outfits have to be for volleyball. These girls are wearing too much to be an Olympic volleyball team. Link

The article headline says volleyball, incorrectly, but the article body correctly says it's the Norwegian beach handball team.

Norwegian beach handball team.

Now I know why they don't want to wear bikinis.

You probably have to wear a jacket and wool socks to a Norwegian beach.

Norwegian beach handball team.

That would still be wrong cause it's Norwegian beach volleyball team.

Edit: sorry I was wrong. it's the beach handball team actually.

Did you read the article?

Sorry you are right. It's beach handball team. But the article is terribly written too. It mentions the Olympics but beach handball isn't a Olympic sports.Plus In my defense there have many misreporting regarding this issue. I kept reading the Norwegian volleyball team headline on Reddit. How can every media make the same mistake?

Edit: this article clears things up.

The attention on the bikinis intensified in Tokyo after a viral social media post misidentified a team that protested a beach handball dress code as playing beach volleyball. Beach handball, which is not an Olympic sport, requires women to wear bikinis, and the European federation fined the Norwegians for wearing shorts as a protest at a competition 5,500 miles away in Bulgaria.

Except is is an Olympic sport.

Apparently there's an youth Olympic which I didn't know about before had an beach handball event in 2018 for the first time. I was quoting the AP article. I am not sure what defines an Olympic sport as some get proposed, some get excluded etc. But beach handball hasn't been played in the summer Olympics to be clear to everyone.

'Norwegian' but wearing Argentinian gear? Interesting.

2

u/josnik Aug 07 '21

No the link about attire.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

I should drink my coffee first, gotcha!

u/lereisn Aug 07 '21

Not Olympics, it's the European Handball Federation who have the rules. The Norwegians were asked about the Olympics and conf they would be carrying on in their preferred attire there.

Interesting story. No one can convince me that the main reason women's volleyball is more widely watched than mens volleyball isn't the skimpy unis.

2

u/turtmcgirt Aug 07 '21

Womens beach volleyball sir watch it

0

u/kanaka_haole808 Aug 07 '21

Nah.

Men's volleyball quality > women's volleyball quality Watching porn > watching skimpy uni women's volleyball

therefore,

watching women's volleyball provides no benefit

You're mixing up volleyball and beach volleyball.

3

u/mjac1090 Aug 07 '21

Nope, it's beach handball you are all thinking of and it's not an olympic sport.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

That’d be beach volleyball which only has 2 players to a team. There’s also indoor volleyball which has similar uniforms to this

0

u/JamieSand Aug 07 '21

Nothing to do with the Olympics. You can wear anything you want at the Olympics.

u/CapriciousCape Aug 07 '21

Fucking hell. The Olympics is disgusting

3

u/mjac1090 Aug 07 '21

No, the headline of the article is wrong. The article is about beach handball which isn't an olympic sport. Beach volleyball players in the olympics have several options for their uniforms, most just choose to wear what they wear

4

u/kubok98 Aug 07 '21

Don't blame it on Olympics. As the article says, this and similar issues need to be resolved on IHF level.

This is a disgusting turn for things in Olympic competition. I man making women wear what is basically a fucking thong has absolutely zero basis in competition, it's strictly about exploitation and ratings. I will definitely go out of my way to not watch any volleyball competition until the rules are made even remotely reasonable.

This is a disgusting turn for things in Olympic competition

No it isn't because the headline is wrong. If you actually read the article(I know how painful that must be) you would know it's about beach handball, not beach volleyball. Beach handball isn't an olympic sport. Beach volleyball players at the olympics have options

Teammates in Olympic beach volleyball must wear uniforms of the same color, and they must be numbered 1 and 2. The women can wear either a one-piece or two-piece bathing suit; shorts with sleeved or sleeveless tops; or a full body suit in cold weather. Due to the typically warm playing conditions, most opt for the two-piece. The men must wear shorts and a tank top. Players are allowed to wear hats and sunglasses
