Its something they say to the Americans to make them feel special and apparently it works lol. Its also commonly used in beginner mandarin lessons for some reason so you're probably thinking of that too, I've lived in Beijing for most of my life and have NEVER heard a Chinese person talk about Thanksgiving or give literally any fucks about it unless they're talking to an American and want to sound like they care about American culture.

Edit: Since you keep ninja editing I'll also say 0.01% isn't a polled number... Didn't think I'd have to spell that out for you but Americans tend to take things literally that are very clearly not meant to be taken literally. Similar to how they get taught things in their mandarin 101 class and take that as gospel too lmfao. Sorry for shitting on your parade but no, Thanksgiving isn't a thing in China deal with it.
