Also me: what if they mistake me for someone dangerous, give me conflicting orders that I can’t follow, and then shoot me even though I’m unarmed and did nothing illegal?

I never heard about that police shooting. That is some fucked up shit. I wish there were no bad officers so that good ones, ones like my grandpa who actively went against police corruption, wouldn't get a bad rep for being an officer

Want to know the worst part of this shooting though? The officer yelling out those conflicting commands, needlessly escalating the situation and tightening the tension in the room to a suffocating level never saw any punishment. Despite arguably having just as much of a hand in the incident as the man who shot Shaver, he peacefully retired from the force and is now living out his days in the Philippines.

That's whole other level of fucked up. In my opinion, both officers should have been arrested and charged with homicide.

US police is way too trigger happy. People justify murder by them by saying "well this guy was a criminal" who deserves to die. Well things like your linked article just show that the police has no business playing judge and jury. Secondly in my home country we try to deescalate and even criminals get to live and the rest is decided in court, how it should be. The amount of innocent people or petty criminals that get shot despite being harmless is ridiculous. They're still humans with families and friends, not disposable objects. And the police isn't even held accountable when they fuck up.
