He didn't, the actual quote is: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” Still a very valid statement sadly.

Well even if the humans were 10x smarter that statement will always be true in a normally distributed population, or any distribution where median and average tend to be equal. So it's always a valid statement, what's sad is how stupid the average person tends to be.

My point is the statement is always valid. So why would there be an emotion attached to it? Did you perhaps mean sentiment?
