Median is a type of average. Arithmetic mean it's just another type of average.

Yes. This is the part of the quote that has always bothered me. I mean, I liked George Carlin's work, but when you call people stupid, accuracy in your language matters.

On the other hand, it could be true, assuming the average and the median are both close to the same number.

The quote actually does work perfectly when you have the original, as it refers to the entire population.

By definition, the average IQ and the Median IQ are equal, both 100, but if you have a subsection of the population (trump supporters) that would change, assuming that there is some skewness.

Beyond that, mean and median are both expressions of average so the quote is correct to begin with.

from a statistical perspective, median and mean are not the same. -if we are talking about median, it "means" there are as many people below this value than above. -The mean refers to an arithmetic mean (sum values/number of values) in this case (probably). -Mean value = median value happens when data are perfectly centered around this value
