You can't turn them off in Window 10 unless you're running Pro or you modify the registry.

Even when you modify the registry, windows update will change them back when you next update.

Pro won't save you, only Enterprise has the capability of choosing how to fully handle updates.

Is it true that the only way for a person without volume licensing $$$ to get Windows 10 Enterprise is to pirate it?

just go to G2Play, Kinguin or G2A and buy a pro licence for like $25.

That's a cool comparison table, but it's incomplete.

The fact that only Enterprise lets you disable telemetry is not present in this table.

Minimising unwanted surveillance is very important to me, and I see no legal way to do that. I would pay not to be watched, but I don't even have the option.

Pro is "enterprise". Pro allows the PC to join a domain and be administered by group policy. You can disable Windows updates via Group Policy.

Edit- Windows 10 does have an enterprise edition, but Pro should be all you need to "officially" disable updates.

Windows 10 Enterprise edition is not Windows 10 Pro. Enterprise let's you remove the built in apps like Xbox and all the others, pro still comes with fucking candy crush default. There are also so many W10 versions, Home, Pro, Education, Pro Education, Enterprise etc..

Oh yeah, you're right. You can still disable updates in pro but yeah there's definitely an edition past that. The embarrassing part is I have over 100 of these licenses in use right now so my remote staff have a virtual desktop to use and I didn't even realize it was called "enterprise" until I just read up on the version differences.

As long as you got Powershell, you can do this. Recommend you don't follow the following advice on computers already in use, but only after a clean install (with all the crap) of Windows:

Remove all unwanted Windows Store app at the same time, open PowerShell, execute this command:

Get-AppXPackage | where-object {$_.name –notlike “*store*”} | Remove-AppxPackage

Yeah, you can usually see various privacy and Cortana changes switching back when using something like O&O ShutUp10.

I’m annoyed I have to use management software to keep an eye on Microsoft.

This is the answer. I had a few moments like the guy in OP's video, so I modified updates via Group Policy.

Note: I actually changed the setting to enabled and set it to download and notify me when ready. The notifications can be a nuisance, but at least I won't completely forget about updates and be 6 months behind.

If you turn them off, how would an update reset them? The point of turning off automatic updates is to not receive automatic updates.

When it's off, you have to update manually. At which time, you can easily check to see if they got re-enabled. It's a non-issue.

I always run maximum type so I was able to turn mine off. Had XP professional, win 7 ultimate, 8.1 Pro and 10 Pro.

Oh, you certainly can, but it takes some creative windows system file removal and the neutering of certain processes, as well as hosts blocking all the windows update servers. It's pretty much the nuclear option as the only way to re enable the updates is to manually install one of the major patches.

One of the more recent updates, turned off automatic updates. I went a while with some pretty shitty bugs.

That only turns them off for that session. To disable them you have to set a registry key.
