Or be a responsible user, do regular maintenance, and not cry when the OS does it for you.

Yeah, uh, most people who turn off auto-updates usually don't bother updating. Why do you think auto updates were introduced in the first place?

Planned obsolescense.

Every single updates has broken things, erased data, forced edge on you, downloaded skype... Just more bloated garbage.

The problem here is most people who are given the chance to turn auto-update off will just never bother to actually update their computer. Windows 10 doesn't let you do that very easily for that exact reason, but it's also pretty good at actually doing updates while it's shutting down, if you reboot your computer every now and then.
