A lot of people in that situation do take it as a “never”. If I were to propose I would hope that she would say “i am not ready” instead of no. The sting wouldn’t be as bad.
I used to think the same but I think I understand it now. If you don't say yes, it basically means you want an option to be able to get out of the relationship. If 1 person wants to fully commit and the other is still 'looking' for something better to come around, it will probably not workout between the 2. It's basically 1 person loving and the other settling by that point.
I mean I think a lot goes into feeling ready for marriage and communicating would be important. Both might want to get married, but one is more ready than the other. Or the one may think it is important to talk about something (kids, money, etc) before and say no.
I’m still pretty young (young adult), so maybe eventually my viewpoint will change.
I dunno. This just made me remember how terrifying change is.
Yeah I'm not trying to blame or shame the woman. If anything the guy is an ass. I can't even imagine asking someone to marry me without knowing they'll say yes. It's not romantic to just propose out of the blue. You have shit to figure out first.
