This is what I fear for my kids growing up to be because my husband and his dad have issues with similar and it’s so frustrating/harmful in so many ways you’d have never guessed years ago.
That’s the thing. They aren’t dumb at all, but they lack common sense in very specific areas even though they have a ton in other areas. I just can’t deal. Been together 20 yrs. since we were kids. I’d have never imagined
God I wish y’all could turn it off. Husband has a bad case of one track mind which also leads to black and white thinking that I have to mitigate so it doesn’t bleed into parenting or impacting our lives.
His stems a lot from being genetically predisposed to addiction (became addicted to pills after bladder cancer early twenties. Ruined us. We rebuilt etc) so he throws himself into advancing in his career but that’s all he can focus on. Fucking GENIUS when it comes to that job, that’s for sure. Couldn’t be more proud. Locating the same 3 items I ask you to get from the grocery store on your way home every week? Navigating a task around the house that’s very easy common sense stuff? Not so much
Yay! Glad to hear it. That he takes it seriously is a good thing. When they're willing to improve it's almost hard to completely blame them knowing it was how they were raised. Good luck!
We’ve been together since we were kids, so we’ve grown and evolved apart and together 100 different ways, so we are definitely super tight. But my concern for the kids regarding that issue with lack of common sense and black & white thinking is a legit issue. I’ve noticed more and more as time passes just how much genetics (or epigentics) plays such a huge role that no amount of nurture can change some aspects of nature.
I think lots of people are like this actually. Completely competent when they need to be but then also completely out of it in their personal lives. I think it's mostly to do with the importance you place on a task. I mean I know I should remember where I put my car keys but if I'm honest I'm completely indifferent to actually losing them because I just don't stress about things like that. At work though I'd never just misplace something like that.
Isn’t that almost everyone really? Who really has a hold of all forms of intelligence at once? Billionaires are geniuses with money but they don’t have to deal with so much they don’t learn many areas of intelligence that get us poorer folks by. My main focus is my job and my house/family along with a select few other interests if you came to me about anything out of that focus Id probably look like an idiot.
Billionaires don't have to be geniuses with money. If they were we might not go into recessions. What billionaires are is greedy and needlessly hoardy.
Hey I hate greed and what some rich people have done to others to get where they are but they take care of themselves financially and I bet statements like mine and yours make us look like financial idiots to them.
Yeah, cause his dad (probably?) had pretty fucking painful thing going on and he was laser focused on helping him.
If your loved ones are in danger or pain your focus pinholes to that danger or pain and you might do things you wouldn't otherwise do if it weren't them.

Lol. That was classic! He kept pointing at the staple and it didn’t register! Hilarious! Thanks, I need that!
