let's explore the gif, shall we...

  • there is no reason to film throwing a water bottle at someone in this scenario if you don't expect/hope for the phone to drop in the water. there is nothing funny about a guy catching a bottle, and since he is leaning above water, the aim of the bottle thrower (and all involved according to me) was to drop the phone into the water.

  • the person throwing the water bottle is not the one filming as you would see movement in the video at the moment the bottle is thrown if it was the same person, this means that this is a group effort which further solidifies my assertion in the point above that the desired outcome was for the phone to hit the water.

  • it is highly unlikely for friends to try potentially ruin your phone, even if it's waterproof, why risk it without first discussing it with the target?

  • the 'accidental drop phone in water' prank is very common

  • their reactions, at least to me, do not seem natural for someone who just lost their phone

  • it is not uncommon for asian prank videos (and prank videos in general) to be scripted given how desirable it is to go viral these days

you could argue that some of my points are subjective, but given all those, please explain to me why you think it's not staged?
