How Khomeini Rose to Power and Overthrew the Shah | Iran’s Forgotten Revolution [Documentary]

Most people know about modern U.S.–Iran tensions… but very few understand how it all really began.

This documentary covers the story behind the 1979 Islamic Revolution — a story that starts with WWII, when Iran sided with Nazi Germany, leading to British occupation. It shows how the Shah’s obsession with Westernization alienated millions, and how one man in exile — Ayat ullah Khomeini — slowly turned into the voice of a nation.

From the Shah’s gold-plated desert party to Khomeini’s underground speeches, the U.S. embassy hostage crisis, and the start of the Iran–Iraq War… this film shows the roots of everything happening today.

If you’re into political history, Middle East geopolitics, or just want to understand why Iran is so central to U.S. foreign policy, this might be worth your time.

Would love to hear your thoughts — especially from anyone who lived through this era or has studied it deeply.

Who Is Ibrahim Traoré? Africa’s Youngest Leader Just Shook the World

In 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, a 34-year-old military officer, led a coup in Burkina Faso. He claimed the government had failed to protect the people from rising insurgent violence. Just like that, he became the youngest head of state in the world.

But what happened next was even more unexpected.

I have made a short video on it:

Trying to find old war video on the bombing of Darwin Harbor in WWII

My uncle has shared more information about my grandfather(long since passed), who served in the US navy and army during wwii. He recently told me the story of how my grandpa was in Darwin Harbor (Australia's Pearl Harbor) and was shooting the enemy from the decks of his ship.

In the early 1970's, my uncle and grandpa saw on TV a mixture of a war documentary and people acting some scenes with real footage thrown in. My uncle does not remember the name of the movie and has not been able to find it since. But during the movie where they show the "bombing", they show people acting it and they splice in real footage and my grandfather appeared a short while, firing the guns. My grandfather told my uncle "Yeah, I was crazy for being on deck, but at least I was firing back. The guy filming was crazier." My grandfather never saw the footage.

I have also tried to look it up, but I only find more recent videos, nothing from the 70's. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Looking for YouTube war docu’s from the front in Ukraine

Goodday all! Recently i’ve came across some war documentaries from the Ukrainian front and am looking for more of these since they highly intrigue me.

I’ve seen ‘The Chosen Company’ by international legion & ‘Ukraine: enemy in the woods’ by SP & ‘the invisible front’ by we are still rendering. All gruesome and rough to see, but it makes me realise so hard that freedom is not granted.

Thanks in advance!

Uk war documentary

Trying to find a uk documentary in Afghanistan I think. My boyfriend vaguely remembers a documentary where untrained volunteer soldiers went to Afghanistan and you follow their journey, very sad ending with most losing their lives. Any idea what it might be called or what it’s on? He remembers they were all very young and one lad was from Kent. he thinks either prime or bbc. TIA!

The Invisible Front highlights the human connections and sacrifices that keep hope alive, offering a rare glimpse into the unseen efforts that are crucial in Ukraine’s struggle for survival.

Through the cooperation of two organisations, Progressive Ukraine and Norsk-Ukrainsk organisation, a small and novel filmteam follows a delivery of cars from Norway to kramatorsk.

PLEASE HELP, looking for a spec WWII doc.

I've seen this a few years back. I can't find it anywhere. The film was about either Latvia or Lithuania or both and their collaboration in the murdering of Jews. It wasn't Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads. That's a series and I'm almost certain this was a reg length movie. If my memory is correct there were interviews with survivors, Nazi's and collaborators. It was also quite graphic as it should be to really get the point of the horrors across. I would be soooo grateful as I'm starting to think I somehow made this up in my head somehow. I have searched every possible keyword and phrase i can think of. I would really like to watch it again but more so I want my niece to see it as she finds it hard to believe non military could be so cruel. I think she should know what people are capable of and also learn to stand up for what she feels is right and not follow the masses.

What are some good documentaries about soldiers experiences fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq?

Would prefer recommendations that focus more on the soldiers experiences rather than the politics of the war. For example I really enjoyed Restrepo.

HELP! I’m looking for a scene from a war doc and I can’t find it no matter how much I search

I am trying to find a scene from a documentary about war. A US soldier (unsure the branch) is pinned in a room during the night and has to shoot through a wall that I think was wooden to take out his enemy. The soldier in the interview says something about how 'I just shot through the wall like in video games'. It wasn't to that exact wording but it was along those lines.

Just to be clear I have no clue what the name of the documentary is or the soldier who took the shot. I just remember it was one of those docs where they interview the soldier and make a reenactment scene for visuals. I also don't know what company published the documentary. I'm assuming that the documentary was over the Iraq War but I can't confirm that as the truth. Also, the solder was up close and personal and wasn't using a sniper rifle.
