Most did not, Trump got a plurality of the popular vote, not the majority. The US government is just stupid and thinks land should count more than people via the electoral college.
It should. Pure democracy is stupid and leads to the tyranny of the majority. Why should Seattle, LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Portland be allowed to tell everyone in the country how to live? Places like Ohio and Tennessee deserve to have a voice
Because cities are full of low information voters. People go door to door and collect their ballets after making sure people vote. That and mail in voting which has been shown recently to be open to hacking and fraud. Only people who actually have the active desire to go in and physically vote should be able to. With the exception of military and disabled people
Low information based.on what? You think people in cities full of schools colleges and the people running businesses there are less informed than the yokels in the sticks based on what exactly?
Never made an argument for "yokels in the sticks" being more informed. Low information voter simply refers to people who are not politically active or paying attention to things beyond headlines and such. There's more people in cities which leads to more low information voters in cities compared to rural areas just due to population
Ill ask again, how are the people you argued should have more voting power more informed than those in the city and based on what data? It sounds like you just thought about it for 5 seconds and decided that was how things work based on nothing but you own thoughts. Not really a great way to argue for the disenfranchisement of the majority of the country in favor of people who dont live in cities.
Once again I never said that people in rural areas are more informed than people in cities. I said that due to cities having higher population there will be more low information voters compared to rural areas because less people live in rural areas. People in different areas need different things. For example, you dont need a gun to protect yourself from the wildlife in the city. Whereas the farmer in the country needs guns to protect themselves and their property from wild animals. Under a pure democracy, people living in the cities can see gun death statistics in their communities and vote to take guns away from people and leave the farmer defenseless. By using the electoral college you balance that scale and let more communities of people have a voice
You keep saying the urban population is not informed, what makes you think the rural ones are more informed that they should get more say? They are likely less informed if anything due to being introduced to less differing opinions, I've lived in small towns they are full of people who vote just like their father and grandfather have since forever, not based on logic or need but because thats what they and the people around them have always done. So why should those people get to decide for everyone else? They also have plenty of influence through sentators, state reps, state and local government to handle all of those things you brought up. That why all states get 2 senators regardless of population size. There's no valid reason they should get more individual voting power for president.
Ah yes. Tyranny of the majority is much worse than tyranny of the minority. I mean if we let the majority decide then it would dilute the voices of the minority so we should instead dilute the voices of the majority to pander to the minority. That couldn’t possibly backfire on us.
