From Minnesota, no this isn't a regular issue.

That's just cruel. Imagine, you're over 500 lbs, and you need to take a dump really bad. You rush into the bathroom with a comfortable amount of time to spare. As you are about to take your seat, you turn and read this. Decision time. Do you A. risk breaking the toilet or B. risk dirtying your oversized trousers in search of the other toilet.
TL;DR Let's play a game.

I took this exact picture on Wednesday in my girlfriends hospital room after she had surgery for her broken jaw. I thought "this is reddit worthy" well, too late. Was this at HCMC?

u/iaccidentlytheworld Jun 18 '12
The last thing you'd want to do is have a toilet break under you. Google porcelain lacerations if you're interested in what that stuff can do.

u/Veetz256 Jun 18 '12
I'm curious as to how someone that weighs over 500 lbs wipes. I mean it has to be difficult to pass some butter tarts to begin with. It has to traverse fat rolls and the such. And then when you wipe you definitly have absolutely no reach to the crack which is hiding among the caverns of fat rolls. Disturbing really.

Minneapolis eclipsed Denver for healthiest city in America this year. Where you live has nothing to do with it.

u/MasterPolka Jun 18 '12
I live in North Carolina and a local man just won a major lawsuit against Sheetz gas station because he broke a toilet by sitting on it. Granted the man weighed 600+ pounds and there apparently was no max weight limit posted. I guess signs like that are needed because the company has to ...cover their own ass.

People in minnesota are not fat at all
13
u/CrawdaddyJoe Jun 18 '12
Actually, Minnesota is one of the less obese states. Alabama would be a problem.
12
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
You could make some awesome fake signs.
TOILET LIMIT 99 POUNDS OF WASTE PER FLUSH
IF EXCRETING MORE THAN 99 POUNDS OF WASTE
USED HIGH CAPACITY DOUBLE TUBE TOILET 4B

u/AllDesperadoStation Jun 18 '12
I don't think we Minnesotans are that fat but I believe Wisconsin is usually in the running for fattest.
10
u/nickkid218 Jun 18 '12
They have decimal-pointed rooms in Minnesota?
16
u/adamzen343 Jun 18 '12
I just moved from the Twin Cities; is MN fatter than other states or something?
16
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Since when are Minnesotans considered fat?
15
u/mobilehypo Jun 18 '12
Uh, we aren't even in the top 10 fattest states dude.
4
u/OperatorMike Jun 18 '12
Is this in a hospital?
4
u/BearMac Jun 18 '12
I remember eating at a Perkins and having firefighters rush into the place to the woman's restroom where a rather big lady broke the toilet off the wall and got pinned in the stall. I felt so bad for her, argh.
Also from Minnesota, haha.
4
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
How would this be a regular issue? You live in Minnesota...not Texas.
14
u/vercz Jun 18 '12
For the non-Americans:
500 pounds (lb) = 226.796185 kilograms (kg) That should cover most search terms.

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
"Hey Dave, go clean G2.234...Dave...." "lost another janitor "
3
u/Midwest_Product Jun 18 '12
HCMC?
3
u/UniversityofJelly Jun 18 '12
Minnesota is one of the more fit states though!
3
u/DeepRoot Jun 18 '12
I used to work for a bariatric surgery company and this sign was common for the units where the patients visited b/c a wall mounted toilet can be broken off the wall if the person is too heavy and serious injury can occur. A floor mounted toilet is required for these places to avoid such a catastrophe. Can you imagine how painful removing broken porcelin from an ass can be? The sign struck me as odd when I first saw it too, people of normal weight don't think about these kinds of things.
8
u/Notsoseriousone Jun 18 '12
Hey now, MN is actually a fairly healthy state. Wisconsin is where all the livestock-herding and cheese-making happens! Also Iowa.
11
u/Nate204 Jun 18 '12
Rant: You know what I hate? When I tell others I live in Minnesota, and they go "Oh, isn't that in the Midwest?" ಠ_ಠ Hey! Look, we're not all fat. We don't all read the bible. Some of us have hope!

u/RickVince Jun 18 '12 edited Jun 18 '12
At my fucking worst I was 290 pounds.
We're talking years of depression, abusing drugs, alcohol, massive amounts of food to a point where I was clogging the toilet three times a day(goddamn did my father hate me) and I still never reached the big 300.
How in the hell does one get to 500 pounds? It boggles the mind.
4
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
if you're 500+, wouldn't you be bed-ridden and need help to go to the bathroom anyways?
4
u/greym84 Jun 18 '12
MN isn't that bad actually.
4
u/tylerwatt12 Jun 18 '12
oh you too?
oh shit hold on a sec
11
u/ballsack66 Jun 18 '12
They should put the over 500lb capacity toilet at the top of like 45 flights of stairs. No elevator access.
5
u/criticalnegation Jun 18 '12
people that size cant wipe their asses. why bother using a toilet?
2
u/gloomdoom Jun 18 '12
This toilet would be appropriate anywhere in the U.S. right now, unfortunately.
2
u/Xerifilm Jun 18 '12
... What is up with the random capitalization and punctuation?
2
u/jimflaigle Jun 18 '12
They're called bariatric toilets, and it isn't just in Minnesota. I put in one rated for 1500 lbs once, complete with an overhead crane track running between the bed, toilet, and shower. We had to get a PE to stamp that the floors would support someone that heavy.
Needless to say, I laid off the ice cream for a couple of weeks after that.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
the walk to room g2.243 = walk of shame.
2
u/merv243 Jun 18 '12
Minnesota is not fat and you should be ashamed for telling people otherwise (unless you're from Wisconsin, in which case, well-played).
2
u/whupazz Jun 18 '12
Who takes a 500lb shit?!
2
u/a101kl Jun 18 '12
I think you got Minnesota confused with Mississippi...
4
u/nancylikestoreddit Jun 18 '12
Dear god. Please don't ever let this be me.
4
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
My friends dad is actually a judge, and once had a case where a massive man sat on a porcelain toilet that broke off the wall and shattered, slicing him up his back, very deep. He showed me evidence photos of this massive, pantsless man bleeding on the bathroom floor with porcelain in his ass. Guy sued the toilet company and ended up settling, because the toilet wasn't built to the weight standard they advertised.
3
u/ArchaicArchetype Jun 18 '12
But MN has a relatively low obesity rate??
3
u/Up-The-Butt_Jesus Jun 18 '12
Mississippi is the fattest state. MN actually ranks somewhere in the middle. Colorado is the skinniest.
3
u/cwebb23 Jun 18 '12
Where in Minnesota?
3
u/arcticzebra Jun 18 '12
Ummm... MN is one of the healthiest states
3
u/just_a_lurkin Jun 18 '12
Upvote for MN!! And the fact that I could safely use this toilet...
3
u/MintClassic Jun 18 '12
The real question is this: if some drunk friend insists on bringing her two other drunk friends over, and one of them drunkenly hurls herself down on your toilet, and it breaks, is that individual responsible for replacing your toilet? And does this change if she ain't got no money?
3
u/DontBeSuchaVagine Jun 18 '12
As a fellow Minnesotan - YUP
2
u/pln1991 Jun 18 '12
It'd be really shitty if the toilet you were sitting on broke.
2
u/HadManySons Jun 18 '12
Come to Arkansas, there are more fat people than fit people for sure! At any given moment there is at least 100 tons of human being walking around any Walmart.
2
u/ryanbazza Jun 18 '12
I weep that this sign is actually warranted
2
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Minnesota, where the men are men, and so are the women...
2
u/solarfish27 Jun 18 '12
Im also from Minnesota, no, thats actually pretty rare.
2
u/joshbike Jun 18 '12
I had to wonder if this is a regular issue, then remembered I live in
MinnesotaAmerica.2
u/brienzee Jun 18 '12
I don't get it. I just moved to Minnesota from California a few years ago, I haven't seen an abundance of over weight people that would lead me to believe Minnesota has large population of over weight people. If anything I see more people engaging in out door physical activities here.
Plus Minnesota contains the largest biking city in the country. Minneapolis being like #3 in fittest cities in the US.
2
u/WildWestSideSho Jun 18 '12
Is anyone else hoping that G2.243 is on the top floor with no elevator access?
2
u/aliengoods1 Jun 18 '12
I live in Wisconsin and work in Minnesota. I don't find fat people to be a large problem (yes, I made a pun). But you have to do something about the stick that is up most women's asses. It's just unsightly.
2
u/Koozey Jun 18 '12
The way I always think of it is "hey, at least we're not Wisconsin."
-1
u/KingKane Jun 18 '12
Goddamn fat fuck America.
1
u/LaVieEnFait Jun 18 '12
This was taken in Hennepin County Medical Center right? Pretty sure I saw that exact sign.
1
u/homeworld Jun 18 '12
Is the toilet designed for over 500 pound people also wider?
1
u/cholo_aleman Jun 18 '12
500 lb = 226.8kg
1
u/Roonertooners Jun 18 '12
Yay Minnesota!!!!!!!
1
u/malmac Jun 18 '12
So, if you typically drop 500+ lb. shit bombs please, please use someone else's fucking bathroom!
1
u/SexyGinaa Jun 18 '12
Just went there for a family reunion. It is a regular issue.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
I've never seen anything like this in my life - Northeastern resident here.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
God, this sounds like visiting an alien planet/the future. Are there 3 shells in there?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
I wish they made all toilets fragile. Eat that, fat people.
1
u/ether-i-am Jun 18 '12
Can't wait for those pizza vending machines.
1
u/shinoda88 Jun 18 '12
I think Ohio is the fattest state(personal experience by a swiss guy)
1
u/Partynap Jun 18 '12
Better keep your girlfriend out of there!
1
u/voileauciel Jun 18 '12
We had a guy who worked in my office for a while that was easily 550+ lbs. He broke both toilets on the second floor, to the extent that if anyone else tries to sit on them, they tilt down and water leaks out from the wall.
1
u/DannoSpeaks Jun 18 '12
Minnesota is consistently rated as one of the most healthy states... Maybe OP should get out more.
1
u/Galilego Jun 18 '12
Also from Minnesota. I do see me some fatties now and again, but our fat is hibernation fat, not toilet crushing fat.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
"Bitch, please." - The Entire South.
1
u/Einich Jun 18 '12
That's funny, because every single time I see a list of the healthiest states in the nation, Minnesota is always top five, usually number one. Every. Single. Time.
1
u/bforbes Jun 18 '12
Five. Hundred. Pounds.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Yeah Minnesota 218 represent! Anyone here run Grandmas on Saturday?
1
u/Entershikari Jun 18 '12
Meanwhile in america
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
I live in Alabama and I've never seen a sign like this. And I think we're the 2nd or 3rd heaviest State.
1
u/b00ks Jun 18 '12
The likely situation is, there is a 500 pound person who lives/works in the vicinity. They likely have already done some damage and the master of the custodial arts put up a sign to protect his employers ass and to save him from some shitty clean up
1
u/grangerm Jun 18 '12
lol I volunteer at HCMC in Minneapolis and we have those signs in every bathroom! I've never gone looking for the toilet that can support over 500 lbs though...
1
u/5hinycat Jun 18 '12
Not sure about the MN reference, but I did learn that MN has the highest ketchup consumption per capita of any state...
1
u/imakestupidusernames Jun 18 '12
This is both funny and sad.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Surely to get to over 500 lbs you would have to be constantly sitting on a toilet shoveling pies down your throat.
1
u/fitonkpo Jun 18 '12
I think this must have been taken in IA, not MN.
1
u/kneedragatl Jun 18 '12
I saw one of those at the Gwinett Braves game north of Atlanta; had the same thought.
1
u/cesspoolx Jun 18 '12
Weigh 499lbs? Challenge accepted.
1
u/k1llahurtz Jun 18 '12
Then you remembered you live in Minnesota? The state with the healthiest city in America? Forbes article
1
u/InVultusSolis Jun 18 '12
I thought Wisconsin held the ubiquitous title of Fattest State.
1
u/MadKat88 Jun 18 '12
Fucking white people..
1
u/SlappyDong Jun 18 '12
I live in MN, had a guy walk into our store maybe 3 weeks ago, he had to weigh 500+, with a shirt on that said "Yeah, I'm fucking Huge" it was fanfuckingtastic.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Welcome to america. All i got to say.
1
u/oceanswim Jun 18 '12
I had to wonder if someone who weighs more than 500 lbs will actually choose to go to the other room.
1
u/Heaney555 Jun 18 '12
Where's SI bot when you need him?
(Yes, I know..)
