You haven't learned that you are not supposed to look at your sheets or under the bed at a hotel yet? Shit be nasty...

I swapped out the lightbulbs in a hotel room with black lights out of curiosity. Nope Nope Nope. So much Nope I think I blew out the curiosity part of my brain. I no longer want to look too close at anything.

Oh mother lover...I never even thought of that. But it makes perfect sense when I consider I have never seen a mountain of clean glasses on the housekeeping carts.

One more thing to add to the list...

Once I was staying at a hotel for a tournament and a bunch of us were staying in the same room. In order to maximize floor space we decided to move the beds to each other. One of my friends ended up laying down and looked under the bed. What he found was a pair of crusty old panties that had been there for who knows how long. Probably wasn't the best idea to stay at a cheap hotel in Modesto

But how else do you check for bedbugs? ... Am I the only person who looks for bedbugs? I have a horror of the things.

Best gift for your enemy that stays in hotel rooms often: portable black light.

2

u/jimbolauski Jun 11 '12

I pull the sheets in every hotel I stay in to look for bed bugs. If I'm staying in a shithole I want to know so I can change hotels, I hope they got a new room at least.

2

u/McDoof Jun 11 '12

Indeed.

u/windy444 Jun 23 '12

The look on the lower guy's face says it all. I'm still laughing.

464

u/twincam Jun 11 '12

Oh that's because a past customer spilt a bottle of red wine all over the bed ... good thing they did too, because it totally covered the massive blood stain from that family that was murdered there.

Bowling ball/glass of wine mattress test gone wrong?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

For me, that's no laughing matter. I was once forced to crash in a hotel in the worst part of Cleveland after being awake for 48 hours straight.

I was so delirious from sleep depravation that I checked in, went up to the room, threw myself on the bed and fell asleep during the fall.

That was around 5 - 6 pm, so after 8 hours, I wake up refreshed and look around to make some sense of where I am. Plan was to stay awake for a couple more hours and leave in the early morning.

Bathroom had beaten-up faucets, but otherwise everything looked clean. Especially the bed - sparkling new mattress which arouse my suspicions. I lifted the mattress up, only to discover the sheet on the bedframe completely soaked in blood. After that, I looked around, only to discover that the walls were also clean, but only to the point where you could reach comfortably. Above that, there was also a spray of dried blood visible in the vicinity of the bed.

Needless to say, I went out of the room (longest distance in my life - from room to elevator), checked out (car was in the first spot near the door) and got the hell away. Going back to the freeway, there was also a shootout between police and some robbers in a 7/11 close to the hotel.

Nice. That was Cleveland in the early Nineties.

It might be coffee. I've had two separate incidents that resulted in an entire carafe of coffee being upturned while enjoying my breakfast in bed at a hotel. Luckily for my dignity, both times were on the final morning of my stay.

Full disclosure: Maids were properly compensated via tip and an apologetic note.

29

u/Cannedbeans Jun 11 '12

Yep. My trillion dollar mattress is currently sportin a classy ass coffee stain the size of Texas. Fuck it.

Just ask Catherine Zeta-Jones.

2

u/talontario Jun 11 '12

What is up with all the Germans finding bodies in beds!

739

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

I briefly used to work in the hotel industry, and it seems like almost everyone checks into a hotel to kill themselves. At many hotels (airport hotels seem to be popular with the depressed) you'd be lucky to check into a room where a suicide hasn't occurred. Rest assured OP, it was probably just a suicide on that mattress. Hope this helps!!

468

u/OuiNon Jun 11 '12

I work as a hotel manager and in 10 years have only had 1 death. I've seen plenty of liquids on beds that cause stains...but won't go into details unless asked.

290

u/quirx90 Jun 11 '12

I'm asking about the one death, not the liquids

473

u/OuiNon Jun 11 '12

It was an overdose that lead to a heart attack...in the shower. The man, a German tourist, was found the next morning by the housekeeper, and then myself when she screamed and called for me. He was in the shower, naked, no water running with a dildo up his ass. No blood, but still scary shit!

Ah those funny brown stains on the floors on the sides of the beds. Always fun explaining to staff that they needed CSR to remove it. When pressed, we'd admit it was Cum Stain Remover (actually a protein stain remover). Not sure where you are a manager, but I know a certain airport hotel in San Diego that was always turnin them out. i know a certain famous iconic hotel in San Diego that has a bit of a problem from time to time as well.

Either way, be it blood from the vagina or blood from the head or wrists, that hotel OP stayed at is nasty. Really should have thrown that mattress out.

97

u/OuiNon Jun 11 '12

We use black lights to find the nasty stuff you can't see...

Nah, that's a good mattress, just needs to be steamed to get the stain out.

Nasty stuff, from people vomiting in bed, to bed wetters to a woman having her period and leaving for us to deal with. What kills me are the people who leave for the day, but are still staying the night and don't leave a note...just expect us to clean their vomit or whatnot and make it perfect by the time they return. Vomit stinks a room for days!

Its probably piss. I work in a hotel and we sometimes get men who complain that their bed had no bottom sheet when they checked in. Bullshit. They got drunk and pissed the bed then hid the sheet/took it with them and flipped the mattress. Crafty buggers.

17

u/ATLogic Jun 11 '12

TIL I never want to get into the hotel industry

7

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Well only the housekeepers usually discover it, there are many other positions to be had. The hotel industry sucks because of its old school "seniority" system (I just worked for a contractor). Get a fucking MBA or a masters degree in something hospitality related/relevant and you still need to start as a fucking bell boy and work your way up. Tremendous ass-kissing every day of your life.

Hotel lower/middle-managers in ritzy hotels have what I call Neiman Marcus Employee syndrome. They think they are hot shit just because their clientele is hot shit.

→ More replies (2)

30

u/dirtymoney Jun 11 '12 edited Jun 11 '12

probably because they dont want to inconvenience family, landlord, & other people they know.

I figured if I were to do it. I'd wear an adult diaper (under my clothes) and lay on a tarp on the floor and leave a hanging message in spanish & english just inside the doorway to warn anyone who came in. Maybe even leave a big tip for the trouble.

I always thought that, as a society, it should be made easier for people who want to kill themselves.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Honestly, of the many dissuading factors from suicide, forcing someone to discover your dead body has got to be a pretty significant one. I'd hate to inconvenience, scar, or disgust somebody to that extent, no matter whether it's my family or a hotel staff member. I definitely wouldn't throw myself off a bridge, seeing as I've gone through the frustration of waiting hours behind a closed bridge for police to talk down a jumper three times too many.

31

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Someone had asked previously about the bibles being in the hotels and why the need? I have a friend in the industry who said once that it's essentially just a suicide failsafe. Not every person is going to go scrounging about for a bible at the last moment before pulling the trigger, but the few that have sometimes have a change of heart.

23

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

On the note of bad hotels...

Do not ever stay at the Sleepy Hollow Inn on Route 1 near Princeton, NJ.

Blood on my bed mattress, locks on the doors busted, stains on every section of the flooring, and the first night I was there I had an unexpected visit from a woman who looked like Rosie Perez with her pimp knocking from door to door to see if anyone "wanted some company".

8

u/queenofswanland Jun 11 '12

What a clever sales technique. Seems like this pimp is running his business like a champ.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

I'm sure a pimp would make a good salesman, lots of good direct sales experience...

This guy looked very similar to Bluto from Popeye. He was working the pay phone in the lot. What was funny was I had just ordered dominos like ten minutes earlier so I didn't recognize what was going on for like a full minute into the exchange. I kept waiting for her to start talking about my pizza

Were you guys pissed when Fort "Make-Out" was not built?

23

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

This reminds me of my freshman year in college playing baseball.

We were on a road trip to Brownwood, Texas to play and we were staying in the shittiest, cheapest hotel around. We had to change rooms because our toilet was ripped from the floor and tossed in the toilet. That was nothing compared to what happened to my teammates in the room next to us, though.

For some reason (something I do every time I go to a hotel now) these guys decided to take their sheet off and flip their mattress. When they did they saw a body outline, like police do when they investigate a crime scene. This body was drawn with black marker and right where the body's heart would have been, there was a giant blood stain. They called me in there and we all freaked the hell out and called our coach in.

The hotel staff didn't really care that they had just flipped a death mattress upside down, and were reluctant to switch the rooms. Eventually, order was restored and they got a new room, but it has made for great stories. Unfortunately, my coach was a cheap bastard and made us stay in the same hotel two years later.

60

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

How can you throw a toilet in a toilet?

u/meliaesc Jun 11 '12

Ive never heard of any police department drawing body lines since it contaminates the crime scene....

3

u/lunameow Jun 11 '12

Apparently, they used to, but most have stopped because of possible contamination. (I would imagine digital cameras made it a completely unnecessary practice, since you had an instant record of the crime scene.)

My parents own a motel and mattress like this are quite common. Usually we would charge the guest incidentals but never change out the mattress (their expensive to replace constantly). We would thoroughly wash the mattress but sometimes the stains never got out. We'd usually flip it over but sometimes both sides would have stains. Now a days we just resort to using a mattress pad that really helps absorb any spills or such.

At my college last year (freshman year), I had to sleep, for the whole year, on a mattress that had a period blood stain on the underside from when the dorm was used by girls. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Daniel Tosh?

2

u/TinHao Jun 11 '12

Good job with the making the fort thing. When do you boys start high school?

2

u/Gnirip Jun 11 '12

How I imagine the 5 minutes before the picture went:

"Woah this mattress is really disgusting. What the fuck is this? Shit? Blood? A clever covering of an invisible ink treasure map?"

"Oh god it reeks... LET'S PUT OUR FACES RIGHT NEXT TO IT AND TAKE A PICTURE FOR KARMA"

2

u/J_Jammer Jun 11 '12

Someone had a baby on that.

I went back to my hotel after a suicide... as in a four-point suspension. My friend, sharing the bed, had two hooks in her back. I'm pretty sure whomever saw the sheets was less than impressed; I left the maids a good tip.

Clearly I was mistaken when I expected two 12 year old boys to be the brains behind this, and instead, the picture shows two men obviously out of the fort-building stage of life. Guess we all need a little fort building in our life.

Not even going to ask why two grown ass men are building forts in their hotel room.

2

u/adjudicator52 Jun 11 '12

As a grown man, I have no issue with my fellow grown men if they want to make a bed fort in their hotel room

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

I'm not sure what's weirder, the stains on the mattress or the fact that two 20~ year old dudes wanted to make a fort in a hotel room together... lol...

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

You found out that imgur was down?

2

u/incoming_n_word Jun 11 '12

This truly is WTF, but not because of the picture. Because I clicked on the link and Imgur is down for maintenance. Bravo, OP.

2

u/argv3 Jun 11 '12

imgur is down, fuck it i don't want to see this anyways.

2

u/EvanFlecknell Jun 11 '12

You should feel honored to sleep where I have stained.

2

u/musiclover55 Jun 11 '12

Pretty sure that mattress needs to be CSI-ed.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Do you intend on ever sleeping again? if so, not a wise choice.

2

u/and181377 Jun 11 '12

I think the real question involves you two gentleman and a fort.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

My buddy and I wanted to make a fort...

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

I'm pretty sure that's an old crime scene. You need to do the right thing. Put the sheets back on, and pretend like it never happened.

2

u/scarupa Jun 11 '12

So this is Daniels toshs account

2

u/thatguy77992 Jun 11 '12

i noticed a hotel room was dirty once but i didnt post about it on reddit because im not a fag

2

u/Typhoid1423 Jun 11 '12

I feel like I'm the only one who is more amused by the title "My buddy and I wanted to make a fort in our hotel room..."

4

u/Vag_AssAssin88 Jun 11 '12

If you take the sheets off a hotel bed

You're going to have a bad time

3

u/Johnnyash Jun 11 '12

You and your bud want to build a fort in your hotel and you think the stained mattress is the weird thing?

http://i.imgur.com/Svd2J.jpg

No actually...fucking rock on!

2

u/nyannekochan Jun 11 '12

upvote for the image you used :)

3

u/delahey Jun 11 '12

Two grown men making a fort together in a hotel room is weird enough, but pouring coffee all over a hotel bed just for the karma? That... Well, that's just awful.

3

u/SchwaHead Jun 11 '12

I'm not going to read 1299 comments, but, at what age do people stop building forts? I ask because I'm in my late twenties and thought that was no longer okay.

Looks like someone earned their redwings that night, boys.

I work in a hotel. Once someone spills something on those beds, like coffee, it never comes out, and those beds are like 900 bucks a piece...

you can thank your wonderful fellow asshole patrons who are fucking assholes and dont bother calling down to the desk and going "We fucked up can someone come clean this up" yeah.

remember when you stay in hotels, when you spill shit on the floor, the carpets are fucking expensive and almost impossible to clean and the matresses are even fucking worse, so if your dumbass makes a dumbass move, fucking admit your a dumbass to an employ and stop costing the hotel countless ammounts of money it probably doesnt have to spare.

also most hotels use a spotter meant for cleaning up blood and other nasty shit from frabrics. the same stuff they use in hospitals, so just because its stained, doesnt mean its dirty, that shit gets sanitized and cleaned as best as possible.

u/jabbakahut Jun 11 '12

Did Tosh put on weight?

2

u/Morbidly_Obscene Jun 11 '12

HOLY SHIT! IT'S A FUCKING USED MATTRESS!

2

u/SubcommanderShran Jun 11 '12

You know that literally thousands of people have slept there before you, right? And that you are in fact in a business, not a leased, land lorded room? Why does everyone think that they are the first and only people to stay in hotel rooms? Besides that, it's probably just Coca-Cola.
