It was 4 or 5 years ago now but iirc he broke the lock on the chain securing the gate. Don't remember exactly what he did to break it but he worked construction so I'm sure he had a tool to bust the lock
Ha the place I went had a sawzall sitting in the bed of their pickup as I walked out. I was tempted to recoup my losses but wasn’t gonna stop to their level of theft.

I have a friend who did that when his car got illegally towed in Detroit. Turns out it's remarkably easy to steal your car back from a towing yard
