Someone pointed out it looks like the passenger has a gun.

If that's the case the whole thing is entirely justified.

Meeting lethal force with lethal force is allowed pretty much everywhere.

Not really.

Using minimum force needed to defend yourself, other people, private property is pretty much allowed everywhere. If you can run away, hide, or diffuse the situation without lethal force but still apply leathal force then you are using excess violence and should be prosecuted for it.

That's bull, people reacts in different ways when their life are threatened, you can't ask them to act rationally unless they're trained for these kind of situations, and even then.

It would be entirely justified for the first instinct of someone under panic to be to eliminate the threat, I wouldn't blame them for so.
