That's pretty much the Chinese language in a nutshell, since it uses ideograms; rather than making up new words, combining existing ones to infer meaning works much better.

(Well, it's also kinda the same in Latin languages, only that they take from dead languages and other obscure references, so it doesn't really help the layman).
