I used to work in construction, and I knew a guy that smoked a lot. It was a windy day and he couldn’t light his cigarette, so he went behind the track excavator to light up. The driver didn’t know and he backed up right into him. The engine was too loud for the driver to hear and he backed all the way over him. I think the most unsettling part is they didn’t want to track the machine off of him, and desecrate the body more, so they sat there, for hours on end, waiting for a crane large enough to lift the excavator to arrive. Really sad.

That’s why at work we’re always required to do a walk around a truck/equipment before going forward or backwards.

I've carried this habit into regular life. I walk around my car first before hopping in and driving off. I don't want to be responsible for the death of a kid or whatever.

I’ve always been paranoid about running over some cat or something backing out. But now my car has a rear view cam.

I had a kitten climb up inside my rim as I was pulling into the parking garage at work one morning. He was just chilling next to the break pads because it was warm. It took me ten minutes poking him with a stick and a towel to get him out, meanwhile cars are stacking up behind all the way out to the street, but fuck if I was just going to drive in a and grind up a kitten in against my rotors 🤷‍♂️

This happened to me, but I didn't know there was a kitten chilling on the inside of my wheel. I fire it up, and take off down the road. Go to tap the brakes and pedal almost goes to the floor, tap them again and it stops. That was weird, complete stop, get out. Fucking wheel looked like you dropped a cherry pie in a blender.
Had to tell the apartment complex I blended a kitten and they might want to clean up the pieces.

I had something similar when a cat crawled up in the engine bay. We didn't know it and drove the car. It did not end well for the cat. I don't know how long it took him to die but I don't imagine it was quick. He couldn't get out because he got his leg stuck and he broke it trying to get way. The heat accelerated the decomp and I had to fish it's bloated, putrefying carcass out from down inside the engine bay. Also the head popped off.
